The Controversy Shoes

Maybe you’ve heard about the latest controversy in the sneaker world. It started when Adidas posted images on their facebook page of their yet to be released “JS roundhouse mid.” The sneaker featured orange plastic chains and a rubber hand cuff attached at the ankle of the shoe. This apparently outraged some parents and fellow social media followers.

The sneaker was due to be released in August of this year. And until Monday was on track to keep that schedule. After some serious criticism and negative comments on twitter and facebook. Adidas made the decision to pull the shoe from its lineup. Comments aimed at branding the sneaker were successful. You can see evidence of this all over the web. It was even showcased on the news as the “slave shoe.”

Along with Adidas, designer Jeremy Scott has received some pretty harsh criticism.

This whole situation has some interesting flaws if you ask me. First of all how can a shoe be racist and who could honestly be offended by this? Also, no corporation would ever intentionally set out to spark such controversy. But the most important thing to note here and probably the most overlooked is this. Jeremy Scott designed this sneaker and several others. Jeremy is well known for his designs. They are often quirky and to say the least different.

He has often designed sneakers with wings or cartoon characters faces. This design was in fact a little on the mild side for Jeremy. When asked Jeremy said he often drew inspiration from his child hood. I don’t know about everyone’s childhood, but mine involved some cartoons and toys.

I’m sure that not all of you will remember this. But, In the late eighties and early nineties a popular toy existed. It was called my pet monster. It was a plush purple toy that looked like a monster. One of the toys features was orange chains and rubber hand cuffs. (just like the shoe)

“That looks just like a toy I played with when I was a kid”

That is exactly what I told my son the first time I saw the shoes. At that point I had no idea who Jeremy Scott was. I had no clue that people were claiming to be offended by this shoe. This is what makes me wonder about people who are so easily offended. Maybe they should change the way they think. Instead of trying to make the world think like they do. Convincing the media and everyone else to call it the shackle shoes.

The saddest part about it is my son wanted the shoes. My son showed me the shoes online because he wanted it. He only wanted it more when I told him about the toy it reminded me of. He even called it the the toy shoe. A big difference from what everyone else is calling it.

Electronic Gift Items – Best Gift For All ...

Whenever festive season or any other special occasion shows up on my calendar, first thing which comes to my mind is what to gift. I know it seems bit materialistic but gifts are part of the occasion. People don’t say it but everyone expects it. And if the gift is right then it adds up to the happiness of the occasion. So to make sure it’s worth the money, it is always safe to pick something which probably no one will dislike. And for that reason I always pick electronic gift items.

There are many options available from which we can choose. And it covers all age group. Today I would like to talk about electronic items from Apple. If it is for someone who likes to fiddle with new technology which I am sure everyone does these days then my best electronic gift item would be Apple iPod touch. Steve Jobs who was a creative genius has made technology so attractive that everyone wants to make it part of their lives. There are number of things you can do with it. iPod touch plays music and videos, excels at games and apps, makes video calls, shoot HD video, and more. The iPod touch is a great iPod, a great pocket computer, and a great portable game player. It makes music listening a pleasurable experience with its new Genius Mixes feature. Finding a location and getting directions with google Maps makes it very useful when lost. I would call it an all in one electronic item which makes a happy gift.

Apple iPod classic is also a good electronic gift item. It’s musical genius makes it a good choice for someone who is a music lover. If you are listening to a song you really like and want to create a playlist with other tracks that go great with it, the new genius feature does it with few clicks. You can count on this feature to create a mix you wouldn’t have thought of yourself.

Another electronic gift item which is favorite of mine is Apple iPod nano, it’s looks very stunning and thus makes it very attractive as a gift item. It’s world’s most popular music player which lets you enjoy up to five hours of TV shows, movies, video podcasts and more. The iPod nano has a built-in video camera which makes it fun to shoot video spontaneously whenever and wherever you are.

Samsung Releases Smart Dock for Galaxy Note II

The Samsung Galaxy Note II was introduced to the market in late 2012 and has proven a popular and formidable rival to many smartphones out there today. However, this super powerful and super smart phone has been improved with the recent release of its much anticipat4ed and acclaimed Smart Dock. Don’t confuse the Galaxy Note II Smart Dock with other docking stations on the market – the Galaxy Note II Smart Dock doesn’t just charge your smart phone nor does it only provide better speaker quality; it actually turns your smartphone in to a fully functioning personal computer.

The Galaxy Note II Smart Dock enables you to connect with an HD monitor, a full-sized keyboard and mouse, as well as providing additional storage. With the Galaxy Note II Smart Dock, you get a personal computer with all the functionality of a standard PC at a fraction of the cost.

The Galaxy Note II Smart Dock provides a 3.5mm stereo port, which can provide sound through your personal stereo or your speakers. For connection to monitors and high definition televisions, the Smart Dock also has a HDMI port. Video is played back with an impressive pixel resolution of 1080, so you can be assured of stunning pictures and videos on whichever device you choose to view them. With the Galaxy Note II Smart Dock, you really can have everything – power and portability, style and functionality.

The Galaxy Note II is an excellent rival to many smartphones. It’s a fully functional multi-tasking device that includes the ability to get things done and to communicate, especially while on the go. It’s much like a tiny computer with all the functionality of a smartphone, as well as access to apps, a large screen, Wi-Fi, SPen (stylus), and many other incredible features. Its design may seem a bit large, but the Galaxy Note II is far from cumbersome. This device is an option offered by several major wireless networks. Will we ever see it released in the prepaid phone arena? Only time and demand will tell…

Blog Focus is Technorati’s daily roundup of the top stories as told by the bloggers of the world. Each day a handful of posts, no matter how popular or nascent, will be selected by editors to portray a general unscientific reaction to discussion points around the ‘Net.

Could you please not talk so loudly in the cubicle next to us about Aero? Please? After a four-day weekend partying with Windows 7, the last thing we want to do is imbibe in more Windows 7 coverage. Isn’t there anything else behind the bar, perhaps in a non-OS flavor?

Thankfully, the blogs feel the same way as we’ve all moved on while hoping to forget what we did with the Start menu last weekend.   Instead, here’s the hypeless Windows 7 hangover cure for your Monday morning:

• TechCrunch — Leena Rao reports that Yahoo! Mail is down.  That ought to keep the loud noises to a minimum.

• Mashable — Pete Cashmore takes us down Memory Lane by noting the end of life for GeoCities.

• Gizmodo — Danny Allen recommends a huge gulp of Apple tablet rumors to clear the senses; the New York Times’ executive editor lets slip about an Apple slate.

There are various models and different brands on the market. Most entry level models are really not much different than a good smart phone. But there are also models available on the market that is more than powerful enough to act as a replacement for any netbook or even some laptops.

Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate Modes for Your Laptop

Spread em

via

The current computers have 3 shutdown modes: Shutdown, Sleep and Hibernate. As for the desktops, the choice of these modes is not very different and depends on the needs of each person. On the other hand for laptops, energy issues are always a matter. Indeed the choice of which mode to use for your laptop impacts directly the battery life. In this article we cover which one would be the best in several situations: Shutdown, Sleep or Hibernate.

1. The difference between Shutdown, Sleep and Hibernate:

Shutdown: is a quite familiar shutdown mode with users. When you select Shutdown, all opened programs will be closed along with the operating system. After it has been shutdown, a computer will not consume power. However, if you want it to go back to work, you will have to turn it in, wait for the system to boot, wait for the operating system to run and restart the required applications for the work.

Sleep: also known as Standby or Nap mode. In Sleep mode, the computer is put into a state that consumes less energy than normal. Power is only used to maintain the system’s memory with the applications and data you are working on while other parts of the computer will be shut down to save power. When you turn on your computer from Sleep mode, the system will boot quickly and the data will be retrieved from memory in a few seconds. You can quickly return to work without waiting for the system to restart from the beginning.

Hibernate: also known as hibernation is a less well-known mode. Hibernate is similar to Sleep mode, but instead of saving the data in RAM, in this mode the data will be saved to a file on your hard drive. When you restart the computer from Hibernate mode, like Sleep mode, the operating system and running applications as well as your data will be removed from the hard drive and loaded into RAM so that you can continue the work.

Therefore, when comparing the booting speed between these modes, Sleep mode is the fastest followed by the Hibernate one and obviously the slowest one is Shutdown. However, when comparing the power consumption, we can see Shutdown saves the most power due to no energy use, followed by Hibernate and Sleep mode that consumes the most power. If your laptop is on Sleep mode when the battery is running low, it will automatically switch to Hibernate mode to save power.

2. When to use:

The use of the computer depends on the needs and habits of users. However, very few people take advantage of all the advantages and the convenience of these different modes. There are people who always shut down the computer; there are also some who keep it on 24/7.

Sleep: Sleep mode is useful when you need to leave the computer for a short time, such as nap time. Instead of letting the computer operate, you can put it in Sleep mode to save power and battery. When you come back, you can quickly continue the work, instead of waiting for it to restart and the system’s boot time.

Hibernate: Hibernate mode saves more power than Sleep. You should use this mode when not using the computer for a longer period of time, such as when you sleep at night and plan to continue the work on the computer in the next morning.

Shutdown: This is usually the most common mode for desktop users but those who use laptops often put the machine in Hibernate mode, due to energy saving while still being able to quickly return to work. However, occasionally a few applications may not work properly when launched from Hibernate mode, at this point you will need to shut down and reboot. Sometimes computer users should reboot in order for the system to operate the most effectively.

You should also note the difference with Reboot and Shutdown mode, it consumes power to boot the operating system and the data that are removed from the hard drive. Thus, leaving the computer for a short time, if you choose Shutdown mode, it may consume more power than Sleep.

3. Set your mode:

When you’ve chosen for your commonly used mode, you can set the mode when pressing the power button on the computer or when closing the laptop screen. To change this setting, press the Windows key, type Power Buttons and press Enter. You will see a window of Control Panel to customize.

Now you can customize the Shutdown, Sleep or Hibernate mode when pressing the power button or folding the laptop screen, in two scenarios, when using battery and when being plugged to a power source.

Droid Apps vs iPhone Apps

It has been commonly accepted by various members of the tech community that iOS and Android are the two mobile operating systems that represent the future. Only staunch supporters and developers of other operating systems like Windows Phone 7, Symbian and WebOS will claim that they have a chance. Android and iOS have amassed millions of users and lovers all over the world, and there seems to be very little standing in the way of their domination of the consumer electronics market.

One of the most essential aspects of both of these operating systems is the number and the variety of applications that they offer their users. These ‘apps’ are portals to the web for the user, which make the task of Internet access and data retrieval a simple matter that can be carried out with the touch of a button. Indeed, with similar hardware specifications for most of the high-end devices of both these camps, it is the apps that make a true difference in the use of various smartphones and tablets that run both these operating systems.

The Apple App Store

Apple was the first company to realize the potential here, and their app store was opened in July 2008. Today this store contains more than 350,000 apps and it has been growing at a phenomenal rate. Some of the apps available here are free whereas some need to be paid for, and Apple has a strict policy of rules and guidelines that the app developers need to adhere to. Apple also gets 30% of the revenue from the paid apps, whereas the app developers get 70%. These apps can be used on various Apple devices like the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod Touch and Macs as well and all one needs to do is open an Apple iTunes account and provide some details to access this store. The popularity of the app store has reached staggering heights today, and Apple is fighting a battle to trademark the term ‘App Store’ since everyone associates this phrase with Apple’s store now.

The Android Market

Hot on the heels of Apple’s store, the Android Market boasts around 250,000 apps today. It was made available to users in October 2008, and its rate of growth is far quicker than that of Apple so it is speculated that they will cross Apple’s figure in the next year or so. These apps can be installed on Android based smartphones and tablets as well, and the most endearing factors here are that a majority of the apps are free (Angry Birds, for instance, which costs $0.99 on the Apple App Store) and that Google does not regulate the app developers in any way. So there is a better chance of finding unconventional apps here, but on the other hand, malware and viruses also travel easier here. Google has now created the Android Market online as well, so you can visit the store from your PC, download an app and then send it to your smartphone or tablet within a matter of seconds.

Comparing the Apps

When it comes to the number of apps, iPhone apps are the clear winners (350,000 to Droid’s 250,000). But the Android market is growing at a phenomenal rate so you can expect it to overtake the Apple App Store in this matter pretty soon. If you consider the quality of apps, Apple has the upper hand again as well. Their rules and guidelines ensure that no obscene and vulgar apps make it here, but this is not the case with the Android Market. Moreover, security risks are higher in the Android Market since there is no regulation of the apps. One needs to be very careful about downloading apps here, since they could contain malware. One good aspect about the Android Market is the low pricing of most of the apps here. Almost 60% of the apps here are free, whereas this figure for the Apple Store is around the 25% mark. You also have the option to return an app in the Android Market and get a refund for the money you have paid (within 15 minutes of buying the app) and this is something that people love.

Ultimately, it comes down to a question of freedom and choice. People claim that Android offers more choice and freedom, but the fact is that along with this several security risks start popping up. Apple regulates everything, but the quality rises as a result. Most developers first approach the Apple Store because they know that returns will be higher here. The hardware specifications for Apple products are uniform, whereas for Android there are several budget devices as well with lower hardware specifications. This is important for developers because they then have to optimize and alter their apps to suit these devices, and this raises their costs and lowers their profits. This issue of ‘fragmentation’ is what could ultimately lead to the downfall of Android.

Both these platforms offer some excellent apps though, and these include several categories like health, finance, education, productivity, games, news, utilities and sports. There is something for everyone, and without these apps your smartphone will just be a regular feature phone. The sheer size of the apps available here is what makes these operating systems the kings of the market.
