The "Magic Pad": A Wireless Mobile ...

Wildcharge, Inc. is a new company formed in 2005. A company that envisioned consumers using one universal charger for all their electronic needs. Devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, laptops, portable games, such as Nintendo DS lite will be placed on a mat, that plugs into an wall outlet and then charged. The mat will not over-charge any of the devices and deliver as much power as each individual device needs. President Matzkevich started the idea of a charger pad when he was working at a Silicon Valley firm called MobileWise. Like many new companies, costs ran too high and the company collapsed. But, Mr. Matzkevich did not fold and he sought the help of inventor, Mitch Randall. Together, they re-sparked interest in the Wildcharge, which has passed manufacturers tests, according to an article in the Arizona Republic, written on Dec. 17, 2006. Apparently, the original idea was invented by a Colorado engineer, who visualized preschoolers driving their downsized 4X4′s and pint size Harley’s over a handy pad to power up.

Now don’t think it is that simple. There is always some kind of adapter involved. Each device, such as a cell phone will have a unique adapter that attaches itself to the Wildcharger mat. If this product is a winner, I would image future sales of cell phones, electronic games, digital cameras, laptops will have a logo, stating it is Wildcharge compatible. For example; a Hewlett Packard printer is PictBridge compatible. Meaning some digital cameras can be directly plugged into the printer.

If this technology is successful, airports, hotels, will cater to Wildcharge consumers. Either offer complimentary Wildcharge pads in their rooms for their compatible devices or convenient locations to charge all your portable electronic devices. No need to carry an extra bag for adapters and chargers.

So, remember if you are in the market for a new mobile device, wait and see if the Wildcharger is a hit. Then buy a WildCharge-enabled mobile device. The pads may be available in the first half of 2007. The pad would come with an adapter or a plate that replaces the back of a cellphone or other device and sell for $40.00 to $100.00

Compare and contrast: Firefox 10 vs. Internet ...

The domain of web browsers has always been packed with competition and intense challenge of providing the most to the user. Generally, most of people mean Internet Explorer (IE) as a browser because it has carved a niche among users as a synonym of internet browsing. However, now the scenario has changed after other popular browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome were introduced to dilute the IE market share.

This article is an effort to make you aware with the pros and cons of two leading web browsers, Firefox 10 and Internet Explorer 9. It is an evaluation of both these browsers:

Interface

While looking simultaneously at Firefox and IE 9, undoubtedly IE 9 has an attractive interface. The icon-only interface looks really modern and less space occupying. Nothing can match its ability to express while you are using it for small displays but it will look stretched on a larger display. On the contrary, Firefox makes a better choice for a larger display. The interface adopted by Firefox speaks volumes about its suitability for a larger display with its tabs that have their own space.

Few more features make Firefox a browser with better interface while placed against IE 9. You get a better bookmarks toolbar for bookmarking with which you can drag and drop. So far IE 9 hasn’t come up with an equivalent feature.

Performance

There is a very narrow margin while looking at the performance of the two browsers. Nevertheless, some obvious things come out when you look at them with an expert eye. IE 9 is found to be smooth and quick in loading web pages however, the same couldn’t be said about the Firefox. The same continues while opening new tabs as Firefox takes a little more time than IE 9.Add-ons

Add ons is the area in which IE 9 has lot of scope for improvement. It is a feature that is continuously disregarded by IE. However, efforts have been invested to make it advanced with the reset button to disable all add-ons and customization.

On the contrary, Firefox has been continuously focusing on this area to make add-on management, user friendly, lucid and more beneficial. The add-on site of Firefox is something from which others can learn. Its improved in-built add-on manager can cure many of the issues that has come up while managing add-ons with your browser.

Security

Being an open source web browser, Firefox is not very reliable as compared to IE that offers plenty of security features that are easy to configure and tweak. Security zones have been classified by Microsoft as ‘Internet’, ‘Trusted sites’, ‘Local intranet’, and ‘Restricted sites’. Each of these categories can be customized to suit the requirement of a particular user. So undoubtedly, IE 9 has better security features than Firefox.

Wrap up

After looking at the above stated features and benefits of both the browsers it is not very difficult to reach a conclusion regarding the best available browser today. In all the three aspects, Firefox is giving a tough contest to IE 9. Although Firefox 10 has not incorporated many changes in design as compared to Firefox 9, nevertheless some of them are really impressive. Improvements as bug fixes, an auto-hiding forward button, better extension management, CSS3 capabilities improvement and others are some that has put it ahead of the rest.

Ultra Thin PC Monitors Offer Touch Screen Options

Originally, many PC monitors were a far cry from what is available today. The computer users of today have made the demand for greater viewing and smaller equipment and designers have listened. The result is that there are a wide variety of ultra thin PC monitors, some of which offer touch screen options for a new and more interactive computing experience. From the compact size of a 15 inch screen to a spacious, larger than life 30 inch screen, there are many different sizes available in the touch screen monitor for all types of computer users from the power user to the occasional computer user and all those in between.

Desktop computers are still the preferred choice for many computer users who prefer to have a computer in one location rather than a laptop that goes from place to place. Every desktop computer requires a monitor and for those who use the computer a lot, the type of monitor and size of monitor can make a big difference in factors like eye strain. The creation of the ultra thin PC monitor with a touch-enabled screen is an answer to prayers for many computer users who prefer to use the PC monitor rather than a keyboard. Although a touch screen may not suit every user as a complete replacement for a keyboard, being able to access the vast majority of functions and features from the screen versus the keyboard is what makes a difference in getting things done faster.

The work areas that are short on space can greatly benefit from the addition of PC monitors in the ultra thin models. Unlike their predecessors that offer an excellent viewing space on the front but take up a great deal of space behind them, these ultra thin models often stand on a pedestal and take up virtually no space behind them at all other than the cord that has to run to the computer for internet and power.

Some adjustment is required to go from a traditional PC monitor to a touch screen but many users remark that touch screen PC monitors allow them to get tasks completed in a more intuitive manner than ever possible before. The coordination of hand to eye and eye to screen is turned to a speedy synergy for users who are well versed in functions of the computer and want to transition their abilities from the keyboard to the PC monitor. Combining the ultra thin space saving with touch screen options makes these PC monitors the best choice for many.

There are many more monitors available to purchase for desktop computers, all in one models and now when you need to buy computers it is easy to find what you need and want.

Best Tablet Computer – My Daily Life With My ...

This is a good summary how my tablet forms part of my daily life and how it can accommodate you in your daily life as well. And why my Mid tablet is the best tablet computer.

7:00 My alarm clock on my tablet goes off and I get up out of bed. While I am getting dressed and getting ready for the day I listen to some music on my tablet pc’s thanks to the great sound it is no different than my radio in the room

8:00 While enjoying my breakfast I am ready the newspaper on my tablet to catch up on what is happening in the world. The news application lets me choose which types of news I want to receive and only shows me what I want to see and not all the boring stuff I am not interested in.

8:30 On the subway on my way to work I listen to my music again but now with my Bluetooth headset connected to the tablet pc. I can’t help but to sing out load because this a great tune. It seems like the people around me is not enjoying my singing as much as I am right now.

9:00 At the office and I am checking my e-mails on my tablet and my to-do list on my calendar for the day. I also use the tablet to quickly make a couple of calls that I did not get around to yesterday.

11:00 Me and one of my colleagues had an argument and we Google the answer on my tablet. Ha I am right about it. It must be all the time I spend on Wikipedia while traveling on my tablet.

12:00 I go pick up my lunch that I ordered from my tablet and enjoy my meal while laughing at some silly jokes I received via e-mail

15:00 Not in the mood for working so I am silently watching a movie on my tablet with my Bluetooth headset and pretending that I am working very hard.

17:15 On my way home on the subway I am playing a racing game to get the time by and the people are looking at me funny because this game you use the motion to of tilting the tablet to drive your car. I don’t know if it is the funny faces I am pulling or just the shaking or tilting of the tablet in mid air that let them wonder.

21:00 In bed now and my tablet is plugged into my HD TV and I am enjoying a movie before bed.

23:00 can’t sleep so I am browsing facebook to see what is happening with all my friends and to see what they have been up to.

This is how I use my tablet pc and how it makes my life easier. That is why my Mid tablet is the best tablet computer

What Should You Look For in a Gaming Laptop?

Today, there are serious gamers out there that want the best technology to play the latest games, including the 3D games. Buying any laptop can be a daunting task, but buying a gaming laptop can be an even more challenging undertaking. There are more features you need to look for in order to get the best gaming laptop that meets your gaming needs. As well, when buying a gaming laptop, you need a high performance system that can efficiently play all of the latest video games. Following is a list of tips on what to look for in a gaming laptop.

The monitor size is important and for a good gaming experience size must be large enough. It is recommended that a good monitor size is a minimum 15.” This is because you need an optimum screen space for playing the games. There are screens available that are up to 18″ for a laptop. Get a graphics card that has plenty of VRAM (video RAM). 4GB is the minimum for a good gaming experience but you should make sure it does not max out at 4GB if you play complicated games. As well, make sure that the gaming laptop has a wireless card for internet gaming sessions.

The processor should be multi-core such as a quad-core. You can even get 6 and 8 core processors. Consider the cache size and clock speed because you will need plenty of power and speed. Make sure you get a lot of hard disk space to ensure you do not use it up when playing games. It is important to consider the size and weight of the gaming laptop. If you plan to take the laptop with you a lot, you will likely want a smaller and lighter laptop for your convenience. However, if you are going with a large screen size, you will not be able to get a small laptop.

If you are going to need to be mobile, it is important to get a battery with a long life. Most laptops use lithium ion batteries that are judged by its capacity which is measured in cells. Or you may want to include an additional battery in your package. The keyboard on the gaming laptop computer that you buy should be big enough for you to use it comfortably. Everyone has different sized hands so this is a very personal issue. The touchpad on the laptop should also feel comfortable.

Good gaming laptops are made up of several parts. The video card, CPU (processor), and RAM (memory) are critical to the performance of the laptop for gaming. To play the latest games on a gaming laptop, it is important to get the components that will give you the best gaming experience. Fortunately, it is now much easier now to find good quality gaming laptops under $1000.00 that will give you a good experience while providing superior performance. For the serious gamer, getting the best technology to play the latest games, including the 3D games will let you enjoy the ultimate gaming experience.

Product Review: Archos 101 Internet Tablet

It’s clear Kindle and Apple’s iPad are frontrunners in a new generation of hand held computer. Palm Pilots and Blackberries started a portable PC wave back in the 1990′s, but high price and limited capabilities when compared to desktops or even laptops kept them playthings of executives or gadget geeks. Now, with inexpensive devices like the Archos 101 Internet Tablet, everyone can afford a tablet PC, with the same power as a netbook or even a notebook.

Basic Design

Archos 101 runs Android – the same OS that powers many mobile phones. If you’ve never used Android, don’t worry, it’s an incredibly intuitive interface that you’ll master in a few short days. On a tablet PC like the Archos 101, it’s a matter of tapping, gesturing, pinching and using your fingers in a very natural way. Like the Apple iPhone or iPad, this sort of natural manipulation of data seems destined to be the standard by which all future computers run.

On a physical front, Archos 101 is a wonderfully light, sleek device, with a 10.1″ screen. By using an over molded PVD stainless steel structure, through a patented process, Archos created a strong, but lightweight tablet. My sister has an iPad, and though it’s certainly a well made device, it soon becomes annoying because of weight. With the Archos 101, there’s also a nifty kickstand on back. This stand swings out from the unit’s middle, allowing it to be viewed from nearly any comfortable angle. It saves you from the burden of holding it, and makes for highly enjoyable browsing or video watching.

Performance

Archos 101 runs an Arm Cortex A8 at 1GHZ, with a 3D Open GL Graphics Accelerator. This CPU power translates into smooth video playing, super fast app loading and a more than decent webcam. The cam isn’t HD, but the video it streams and captures is decent enough. It’s not a good low level light camera, but when used outside in strong sunlight, or inside with good lighting, videos look great.

Video codecs, the programs which enable video playback, let Archos play MPEG 4, WMV 9, and H.264-HD videos. With optional plug-ins – costing extra – the unit can play AVI, MOV, MKV, FLV, and many others.

Archos has a long and proud reputation as one of the first companies to make PMPs – Portable Media Players. Music is one of the unit’s strengths, and it plays MP3, WMA, WAV, Ogg Vorbis and Flac. There’s a cool music flow system. It lets you swipe and gesture through a music library. The built in speakers sound fine – if a bit tinny at times – and a headphone jack lets you listen to music like on an iPod or PMP. Battery life will give you about 10 hours of surfing time, 7 hours of video viewing, and about 36 hours of music. These times are approximate, however since I’ve had my unit, I’ve rarely had to charge it, and I watch lots of videos and surf for hours at a stretch.

One of the allures of Android is the Android Marketplace. Here you download thousands of applications like games or utilities. Because of a lack of certification, the Archos 101 can’t access this, however there’s a similar utility called Appslib.

Summary

Retailing for $299.99 for the 8gb model, and $349.99 for 16gb, Archos 101 Internet Tablet delivers a truly affordable tablet computer. Before its release, only iPad appeared a smart choice for consumers wanting real tablet PC performance. It’s well designed, and boasts features most, if not all tablet PC’s as of this writing lack. iPad may be slightly more powerful, certainly more widely marketed, but Archos 101′s ability to expand by USB ports and SDHC makes it a real computer – not just an Internet tablet. Archos 101′s name implies it’s merely an internet tablet – good for just online browsing. However, with an ability to use full size keyboards, external storage, mice and even HDMI output to external monitors or TV’s, it rivals all current tablet PC’s. Most attractive of all, if you shop around, you can buy an Archos 101 for half the price of an Apple iPad.

The top 10 apps to get you started on the Verizon ...

It is recommended to try the free version of apps that have four or more stars. Then, you can decide if you want to purchase the full version of the app. Many full versions simply remove the ads that are on the free apps, and the advertising can eat up bandwidth. Other full versions have more features.

General apps to have:  a good security, battery monitoring, application uninstaller, Geodelic and Yelp, usage or stats monitor, and music organizer will make for a good collection of tools and toys.

General warning about radio: Pandora or Slacker Radio offer excellent customizing and setup of your own music, but be warned that any radio or streaming service uses enormous bandwidth. Some ”unlimited” services really are not. A careful reading of the fine print must be done if lots of radio listening is in your future.  It is better to get a good music organizer and to download from your computer.

Top Ten:

COL Reminder: This has a variety of little reminders and alarms and is good for short term parking reminders and call reminders.

Voice Recorder: Works! It’s an excellent recorder

Calculator: a very good, basic calculator with large keys.

Geodelic or Yelp: It is good to have both. Geodelic finds out where you are, using the GPS, then tells you every business in the area, including where the public restrooms are! When you find a restaurant, for example, it gives all the info, the phone number for instant calling, and has reviews. These apps use the phone book data and Google maps and are also good for making an easy call to see if a business is open or still in operation.

Daily Paper: This is so cool! You choose your language and it will bring up every newspaper in the world that has an online version.

Photoshop and Photobucket: they have droid versions and are so effective for instantly uploading and downloading photos. Your wallpaper can be anything that is in your Photobucket account, via a very simple download process. The photo or item will spread across all three of your home screens, however, so a  good eye for eliminating clutter, along with some cropping or editing might be needed.

Tricorder: This is just the coolest and nerdiest little thing. It is a real, working tricorder with the “Star Trek” sounds and styles. It has a compass and geo locator, information about the sun, a decibel level monitor and some other goodies.

Rainy Days: This

Review of the LogMeIn Ignition Remote Windows ...

Need an iPad remote Window desktop app for you iPad? In this article we review one of the very best applications.

Remote desktop applications are a convenient way to remotely access another computer, be it in the next room or in another country. Remote access solutions are not only great for remotely accessing files and programs – they can also be an indispensable tool in a tech support arsenal. There are quite a few remote desktop iPad apps, but in this article we will be looking at one of the very best: The LogMeIn Ignition iPad remote window desktop app.

Setting up the LogMeIn to Access Remote Computers

Rating

Before you can use LogMeIn, you must first create a LogMeIn account at secure.logmein, and then install the LogMeIn host software on each computer that you want to remotely access (you can only access a computer that is associated with your account). Thankfully, each computer that you install the host software on will be automatically added to your account so there is no need to complete this step manually.

Before you can access a single computer you must enter you LogMeIn username and password. With the correct credentials you can access any of the computers that is associated with your account, providing that the computer is on and connected to the Internet. Once you start the app you will be presented with the list of computers that are associated with your account and you can select any of those computers to connect to.

Using LogMeIn Ignition

Rating

To help new users become familiar with how to app works, there are some “Remote Control Hints” that are presented on the home screen that reveals how to, among other things, “pinch to zoom in/out” and how to do a right click on the iPad. If you are already familiar with these controls, click the green button to continue. If necessary, the navigation hints can be made to show every time the app connects to a remote computer and can also be turned off if required.

Once the app has successfully connected a remote desktop, it will show the remote computer’s screen and a couple of controls at the bottom to facilitate easy command input, text input, and control over LogMeIn Ignition. The tabs include:

Keyboard – Brings up the onscreen keyboard Cmd-tab and command options Mouse (change from left click to right click); Zoom – Zooms in where the mouse pointer is currently located Settings – change resolution, network speed, scroll mode, show hints etc End session button

To navigate, interact with and control the remote computer you simply use the iPad’s touch screen to move the mouse around and tap to simulate a click on whatever the mouse is pointed to. Moving the mouse around can take time to become familiar with, however. For example, if you drag a finger on the screen the mouse will move relative to your finger and so if the pointer is at the top of the screen and you start to drag your finger across the screen toward the top the cursor will move off screen before your finger is even half-way up the screen.

This is not necessary a bad feature, however. In fact, you can put your finger directly on the mouse to drag it around. Not having your finger directly over the mouse pointer allows you to see exactly where it is pointing.

A neat feature that multi monitor users will appreciate is the app’s shake to swap screen feature. If you have a second monitor and the “Shake Swaps Screen” option is enabled in settings, you can simply shake the app to see the second monitor of the remote computer.

Conclusion

The app has all the best features that one would expect for a top-notch iPad remote Widow desktop app. It has strong security, an intuitive user interface and a host of settings to make viewing the remote desktop more pleasant. The only thing that you are now left to decide is if the $29.99 price tag is justified, or if another iPad remote desktop app will have to do. Download link.

The Microsoft-Nokia Windows Phone Partnership ...

The first nail in the coffin for Symbian — Nokia and Microsoft have announced a partnership to produce a new line of Windows Phone hardware.

In a surprising announcement in February 2011, Microsoft and Nokia revealed that they would be joining forces in a strategic partnership to develop Windows Phone 7 and Nokia handsets as a new major force in the global mobile phone marketplace.

While there had been several pointers to an announcement of this sort being made – especially following the disappointing reaction to Nokia’s joint project with Intel to develop the MeeGo platform – many commentators had been expecting Nokia to join the legions of Android mobile phone manufacturers such as HTC, Samsung and LG.

Instead, under the stewardship of new CEO Stephen Elop – an ex-Microsoft man – Nokia devices are being developed that will run the Windows Phone 7 operating system.

But what does this mean to the mobile industry? Is Nokia’s position currently strong enough that Microsoft can take advantage of this, or are both companies flogging a dead horse?

The Current Position

Following the platform’s initial launch in October, Windows Phone has been the subject of an interesting but largely ignored advertising campaign, as well as much critical acclaim. With the Marketplace nearing 10,000 apps (a figure likely to be reached by Easter following a busy post-Christmas period that saw 1,000 apps added in a 14 day period between January and February) and positive words from developers (the development kit has been downloaded over a million times) the general feeling is that Windows Phone is a good platform waiting for something to happen…

Meanwhile, could it be said that LG, Samsung and HTC are doing nothing more than offering Android-like devices for Windows Phone? Certainly the regularity with which LG are throwing the Optimus tag at Android phones, tablets and Windows Phones would vindicate this view, as would the similarities between the HTC HD2, HTC Desire HD and HTC HD7.

The International Mobile Phone Market Share

As things stand, Nokia are the largest supplier of mobile phone handsets in the world. Currently offering the once-ubiquitous Symbian mobile operating system, sales of the handsets have been declining in recent years, largely due to the impact of the iPhone and similar devices – notably the arrival of the Android platform as a major alternative. See – Nokia struggles with smartphone strategy for more details on their troubles.

While Nokia remains the number one handset supplier 2011 is likely to see a change in that position as Android phones from suppliers such as LG, Samsung, HTC and Sony Ericsson (who will be offering two gaming devices with PlayStation compatibility) look set to become the dominant handsets.

What the Future May Hold…

With all of this in mind and recalling the suggestion that HTC, LG and Samsung are providing mobile devices for Windows Phone 7 that aren’t that too far removed from their Android counterparts, Microsoft could certainly benefit from a handset developer who only has one major operating system to deal with.

Similarly, Nokia will be able to focus development into mobile devices with a standardized operating system that is modern, relevant and requires no investment from them. Basically, they provide the handsets and Microsoft supply the operating system.

Nokia have never been afraid to develop good quality mobile phones, excelling at usability, battery life and cameras featuring Carl Zeiss lenses. Similarly, Microsoft have hit gold with the Windows Phone 7 platform, attracting thousands of developers and the marketplace looks set to hit 10,000 apps within 6 months of the platform’s launch.

The Nokia Windows Phone could well be the phone to buy in 2012…

How to install a bi-fold door

Now, we will work with the idea that you have your doors and have measured the opening of the area you wish to place the doors in. Most doors come in standard sizes: 24″, 32″, 36″ and so forth. If you have an odd sized opening make sure you buy a door that states it can be changed to fit, otherwise you will be making lots of trips back and forth. The old saying measure twice and cut once, stands true in all areas of home improvements and building.

Normally you will need the following tools:

• Cordless drill or corded

• Hack saw (Most of the time the track these doors are supported by and move on are metal)

• Drill bit (can be optional)

• Standard screw driver

• Phillips screw driver

• Tape measure

• Pencil

Now, make sure the opening you want to put this door in is free from clutter and regular obstructions as these doors pull out towards and over to the side. If you already have not done so, remove the old door and all of its hardware. If you are replacing a damaged bi-folding door to begin with, here is your chance to save time. If you can find the same door the track will probably be the same, so then all you would have to do is apply the roller hardware to the top of the new doors and insert them. That would be it and you’re done.

For those who are not as fortunate, take out your tape and measure the top of the opening. Remember, measure twice and cut once. The track needs to fit the opening from side to side. You can be a little short or have a small gap in each side as this will not hurt anything. A small gap is about the thickness of a quarter or coin. Now, before you cut your track look at the mounting holes on the track. Try to make sure you have holes close to each end of the track, some times this will require a small cut made on each end to get your holes and length right. The door can sag if the track is not supported close enough to the edges.

Take the track and hold it in the opening to make sure it fits. Mark the holes in the top support of the opening. You can now take and pre-drill the holes for the mounting screws. Make sure the drill bit is smaller than the mounting screws. If you don’t have a drill bit just take your time and have someone hold the track up and put the screws in with the cordless drill or hand held screw driver. The track should be centered from front to back in the opening. Be careful as to not have the drill set to high and spin out your screws or break them. Also, make sure according to the door company or hardware as you look at and see if it has to be in the track before you screw it in.

Depending on when you have to hang the doors, place the hardware on the top of the doors at the edges or sides of each door. Once these are installed, mount the pull handle in the center of either the left or right door on the inner edge where the two doors meet. Remember, these doors pull out towards you and slide to the side on the track. Also the two doors that make a bi-folding door are attached to each other by hinges. If not, install hinges now. Most will have one hinge mounted in the center of each door on the inside. Now, if the doors need to be placed in the track at this point, get the help of another if you can and angle the door out towards you and slip the top hardware into the track.

There, you now have installed a bi-folding door.
