Data Mining for Business Intelligence Can Uncover ...

HP (Hewlett Packard Company) made the decision to abandon their pursuit of the tablet computer market in the year 2011.  Research in motion from Canada, lost over 70% of their market capitalization in that same year due to a number of factors, including an inability to update their famous BlackBerry product to satisfy an insatiable market.  These are just a few examples of how companies are business-intelligence driven today.  Let us look at one more example.

Apple computers may be flush with cash right now, but unless certain labor issues in China, where they manufacture all their, are addressed quickly, they may begin to see a decline in sales and profits.  What do all these companies have in common?  All of them could use more information already hidden somewhere in their large databases of customer and product data. Data mining for business intelligence is no joke, and any failure by today’s successful companies to unearth  and use this pertinent information quickly, can cost them big bucks!

Samsung Galaxy Q: Tabphone?

Samsung are back again with something even better than the Galaxy S2…

This time they plan to bring the two most popular gadgets in the world together into one device, the Samsung Galaxy Q. It will be half phone, half tablet; likely to release at this year’s IFA 2011 in September (that is if all rumours are correct).

The ‘tabphone’ will come equipped with 5.3" Super AMOLED screen which we all know will be massively impressive after the great success of the Samsung Galaxy S. No reports yet whether it will be Super AMOLED Plus but if Samsung plan to keep standards high, we may just see that stunning screen which we saw on the Galaxy S2.

T3 suggests that it will have a dual-core processor, most likely over 1.2GHz and have a very slim build. It is reported that the Galaxy Q will have 3G radio and US customers will get 4G, but we don’t know yet whether the 3G will be data only or also allow calls.

Since it is a mobile phone, tablet merge, we won’t know if it will run Gingerbread or Honeycomb. Earlier this year Google announced the highly anticipated Android OS; Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. We may even see this version running on this ‘tabphone’ as Google said Ice Cream Sandwich will be a standard platform for all devices…

The official release date is yet to be announced but if it isn’t released at IFA 2011 in September than we could expect it before or around Christmas time. 2011 has proved to be very popular in the rise of Tablets and Smartphones and Samsung will definitely take advantage of the Christmas spending. The price has also not been announced but should be around the same price as the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S2.

What are your thoughts? Is a ‘tabphone’ the right gadget for you?

What to Look for in Buying a Laptop

If your purchasing any computer you need to evaluate your needs. What are you planning on using the laptop for? What programs are you planning on running? Will the laptop your buying today have enough flexibility to run programs with more CPU requirements in next few years?

There are three things that are not upgradeable on a laptop so you have to consider those when you purchase one cause your stuck with it.

Graphics card is built in the motherboard and cannot be changed. So if your buying a laptop to play games you better get a good gaming laptop. There are some laptops that are configured for gaming. I would just get a good desktop instead of laptop but to each his own.

CPU is also built on the motherboard and cannot be changed. Just like the motherboard you cannot swap out different motherboards for laptops. So, its good to get an adequate CPU when you first purchase it. Make sure the laptop you purchase has a good processor in it to handle all the programs you will be using.

Sound is another thing that comes built in. Although the sound does not play such a big a factor it just needs to be considered when your buying a laptop.Laptops come from the very small tablet size up to the larger LCD screen size. The smaller laptops come in 13″ to 14″ size. The tablet computer can come in even smaller sizes. The standard laptop is around 15″. I prefer the larger screens 17″ or better. There are a few laptop manufacturers that have a larger screen. It all depends on your preferences.

Most laptops come with all the necessary ports and capabilities. You just need to consider how much RAM and hard disk space you will need. Make sure your laptop has room for upgraded RAM so if you need more than you can add more. Don’t buy a laptop with less 2gb expandability cause it probably not fit your needs later.

Also, make sure you have adequate hard disk space. You need enough space to handle all those applications that take up hard disk space. The main reason to make sure your hard drive is large enough because windows uses part of your hard drives space as swap. So it needs to be adequate.

When purchasing a laptop fit your needs to the laptop you want to purchase. Make sure it has more than enough of the basic configuration requirements you will need.

Top Four 7 Inch Tablets Compared – ...

The Nook Tablet is really aimed at being a portable color ereader, with the functionality of an Android tablet. It has the hardware to go fast, but the build quality feels cheap and unstable. Compared to the build quality of the BlackBerry PlayBook and the Kindle Fire, I would be afraid at dropping this on the ground. That said, it is lighter than the others, so the damage from impact may be less from gravity. All in all, it’s a good price for what you get, and it’s probably the best option next to the PlayBook. 4 stars out of 5. You can watch this review online for a deeper look.

The Final Verdict:

To put a recap on what we looked at, the BlackBerry PlayBook is the best bang for your buck, as long as you can be patient on email and calendar apps which are coming in an update in February 2012. The hardware is sturdy, fast and has the best overall experience in my opinion. The price can’t be beat either at $299 for a 64GB model. If BlackBerry isn’t your bag, and you’d prefer an Android tablet, the Nook Tablet from Barnes & Noble is the next choice for all around versatility and price followed closely by the Kindle Fire at $199. The Lenovo IdeaPad A1 would be the tablet I get if the world ran out of the three listed above, and I desperately needed a cheap Android tablet.

Christmas Gift | Oregon Scientific Meep Tablet

When parents talk about buying a tablet computer for their children there is always two options; an adult tablet or a tablet for the under 9′s. There is though another way and this way comes from Oregon Scientific called the MEEP! Tablet. This tablet is complete independence for your child, you never need to touch it, because you can control it remotely from anywhere in the world!

We are not going to tell your children that though. They don’t need to know that you can add and remove controls on their tablet at the touch of a button ready for when they next use it, nor do they need to know that if you have to; you actually can snoop in on their conversations and friends lists. Maybe this is what makes the Meep! Tablet so appealing to parents.

A Quick Spec Rundown

When you think of the specification for the Meep! then you would compare it to some of the budget to mid-range tablet computers already on the market. The tablet comes with a reasonable specification including:

Why Amazon's Kindle Fire Will Be the Number ...

On September 28, 2011, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com, introduced the world to Amazon’s new family of Kindle e-readers. At this (very Apple like) press event, Bezos revealed the Kindle Fire, a tablet that will light up the Android tablet market like no other tablet has before. The Kindle Fire is no iPad, but it will certainly do. This newest Kindle tablet is part of Amazon’s ecosystem and is capable of offering a seamless multimedia experience that can only be rivaled by Apple’s iPad. The rest of the Android tablet market will be now be competing for third and fourth place in the tablet wars.

The Operating System

The Kindle Fire is a 7 inch tablet that runs on a forked version of Google’s Android operating system. This basically means that Amazon has copied a version of the Android OS and customized it to run the way they want it to. This forked version of Android takes the best parts of Android and combines with some of the best features of Amazon.com.

  • Amazon Appstore – Amazon’s Android app store with thousands of apps and games
  • Amazon Silk – Amazon’s custom cloud accelerated browser, runs Adobe Flash
  • Amazon Cloud Drive – free cloud storage
  • Amazon Prime – free streaming of thousands of titles with a Prime membership (one month free with the Fire)

The Ecosystem

It’s Amazon - Amazon has everything from A to Z. Users can easily link to their existing Amazon accounts and take advantage of the many other Amazon services.

  • Kindle – online e-books and magazines
  • Audible – online Audio book service
  • Cloud Player – Amazon’s online music store
  • Amazon.com – shop for everything else on Amazon’s main site, or use one of their many shopping apps like Windowshop

Amazon is the only company that can rival the ecosystem of Apple. The other Android tablets struggle because their ecosystem does not support a streamlined user experience. Consumers prefer one stop shopping, and Amazon is the only tablet company that can offer it all in one place. Even Apple cannot sell a music download and a pair of shoes in the same transaction.

Is it for you?

The Kindle Fire has mass appeal. This is the perfect entry level tablet for anyone who would never pay iPad prices, yet wants a quality tablet that looks good and works well. At $200 Amazon is going to have many people taking a second look at the Kindle Fire. Android tablets have failed to compete with Apple’s pricing and value until now. Amazon’s tablet will also appeal to those who own an iPad and are tired of sharing their $700 device with their children. The Kindle Fire is small, yet sophisticated looking (much like the Blackberry PlayBook). The full color touchscreen display and dual processor offer consumers the basic features that tablet shoppers are looking for.

See Amazon’s Kindle Fire Here

The Kindle Fire will not replace the iPad, but it will quickly rise to claim the number one position in the Android market. If Amazon can deliver the Kindle Fire with a seamless shopping experience on a reasonably priced device, the Fire has the potential to surpass the iPad’s tablet marketshare because of the sheer affordability and value of the device. There is no doubt that the Kindle Fire will be the Android tablet seen on most holiday wish lists.
