Finding the Best Tablet Pc for You

Tablet PCs are the coolest form of portable computing to hit the markets in recent years Having developed a loyal following of appreciative customers, the tablet PC is continuing to grow in popularity as more and more computer aficionados discover all the benefits of these notebooks

Tablet PCs are the coolest form of portable computing to hit the markets in recent years. Having developed a loyal following of appreciative customers, the tablet PC is continuing to grow in popularity as more and more computer aficionados discover all the benefits of these notebooks.

So what factors are most important to consider when shopping for tablet computers? First, you have to decide whether you want a slate or convertible computer. This is a personal decision based on how you plan to use the tablet laptop. For instance, if having easy access to a keyboard is important to you, a convertible PC is probably your best choice. However, if you need a computer that is very thin and light, you can do most of your work with a pen, and don”t require a laptop with text entry, slate PCs are the right choice. You can use a keyboard with slate tablet computers, but keep in mind that setting up an attachable keyboard and other necessary accoutrements may prove too much of a hassle.

Most people who make best use of slate notebooks work at an occupation such as nursing, insurance, and sales, where vertical use of the tablet PC proves quite beneficial to the tasks they need to accomplish throughout the day.

Screen size is another important factor in selecting the right tablet computer for you. Slate PCs are either 10.4" or 12.1" because this type of tablet laptop is supposed to be carried in your arms while in use. Tablet computers with a 10.4" screen are considered small, but they produce a sharper image. The smaller size and weight of these notebooks are an advantage, however, it can be more difficult to take full-page notes.

For computers with a 14.1" screen, you have to purchase a convertible PC. When comparing convertibles, consider size and weight, especially if you”re looking for a computer that won”t drag you down when you”re on the run.

When comparing and contrasting the various features offered by the many tablet computers out there, screen resolution is another factor to take into account. Resolution is simply the amount of information that will fit on the screen of your laptop. Most slate and convertible tablet notebooks are SXGA resolution, but keep in mind that larger screens on a tablet PC mean a less sharp image, and everything on the computer will appear more pixilated.

The screen viewing angle of tablet PCs refers to the ability to view documents in landscape and portrait modes. The newer computers come with all-direction wide-angle screens that allow you to view items on your laptop at 160 degrees in both modes. This allows portrait-mode viewing on notebooks to be carried out much more easily.

The main brands of tablet PCs include the following: Dell, HP, Toshiba, and Gateway. The best PC for you won”t depend on the brand, however. You have to take into consideration all the factors, including price, which make a certain model the best in your circumstances. Whether you end up purchasing a Dell, HP, Toshiba, or a Gateway, make sure you do extensive research before making a final decision.

Common Causes and Reasons for Divorce

19.52

via

In the present century, both these views prevail. It depends on which part of the planet you live in and in what kind of culture. Divorce rates are higher in European or American countries, where individual freedom is given higher stress, than in, say, Asian or African ones, where familial and social opinions cause higher stress. With globalization, of course, the ‘backward’ countries are catching up. Women, especially, with access to higher education and higher salaries, are less willing to put up with traditional roles and expectations. Social and cultural moralists are having a field day, predicting, like always, dire consequences for the ‘social fabric’. In my personal opinion, the social fabric can go stitch itself. No, divorce isn’t joy-inducing, but then neither is a corrosive marriage. In such a case, splitting up is preferable to staying together ‘for the children’ or to keep up social appearances. Anyway, it all really depends upon the kind of relationship you have. Some relationships are worth working on, some aren’t.

There are many different and complex causes and reasons for divorce, each of them specific to that particular couple’s marital relationship, their individual experiences and personal problems. None of them may seem ‘common’ to the people going through a divorce, of course, but many of the reasons recur enough to warrant the term.

Here are some frequently cited reasons for divorce:

  • Lack of commitment to the marriage
  • Lack of communication between spouses
  • Infidelity
  • Abandonment
  • Alcohol Addiction
  • Substance Abuse
  • Physical Abuse
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Emotional Abuse
  • Inability to manage or resolve conflict
  • Personality Differences or ‘irreconcilable differences’
  • Differences in personal and career goals
  • Financial problems
  • Different expectations about household tasks
  • Different expectations about having or rearing children
  • Interference from parents or in-laws
  • Lack of maturity
  • Intellectual Incompatibility
  • Sexual Incompatibility
  • Insistence of sticking to traditional roles and not allowing room for personal growth
  • Falling out of love
  • Religious conversion or religious beliefs
  • Cultural and lifestyle differences
  • Inability to deal with each other’s petty idiosyncrasies
  • Mental Instability or Mental Illness
  • Criminal behavior and incarceration for crime

Research done on the causes of divorce reveals that -

  • Lack of communication is one of the leading causes of divorce. A marriage is on the rocks when the lines of communication fail. You can’t have an effective relationship if either one of you won’t discuss your feelings, can’t talk about your mutual or personal issues, will keep your resentments simmering under wraps, and expect your partner to guess what the whole problem is about.
  • Divorces often happen because people rarely discuss their expectations in detail prior to marriage, are less willing to work on their marriages afterwards, and would like quick solutions rather than having to resolve issues. People have gotten divorced for trivial reasons like snoring.
  • People who come from divorced homes are more likely to get divorced than people who come from happily married households. Divorce seems less like a big deal if you have seen your parents go through with it.
  • People who get married between the ages of 23-27 are more likely to stay together than people who get married in their teens.
  • People who cohabit before marriage have higher rates of divorce than people who didn’t cohabit before marriage.
  • Recent research into causes of divorce at Ohio State University has revealed that the probability of divorce increases when the husband is unemployed. A wife’s unemployment doesn’t seem to have any effect. This may have something to do with the male ego, whose major source of nourishment lies in his ability to ‘Put food on the table‘. Unemployed males tend to be depressed, irritable, infected with low self-esteem and difficult to get along with.

In many cases, quite a few of the problems that cause divorce have existed in the couple’s relationship long before they got married. The problems were either not acknowledged or were ignored in the fond hope that marriage might offer a miraculous panacea. And, guess what, it doesn’t. Nobody can make you feel better about yourself and you can’t change and save anybody. As someone wise once said, it takes two wholes to make a marriage, not two halves.

The Nuts And Bolts Of Organic Flax Seed Oil

Organic flax seed oil has become the choice of many people in recent years. This once obscure product only reserved at one time for the most extreme health advocated with extra cash to burn, has now both affordable and easily accessible. In fact, almost any grocery store, pharmacy, or superstore will have some type of organic flax seed oil on the shelf.

Helpful tip: Prices do vary greatly so shopping around might save you quite a bit of money over time.

Flax oil has some very respectable support. In fact in a recent article published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition made the case that, when taken in the optimal dose, organic flax seed oil may rival fish oil in terms of net benefits.

So what benefits are we talking about? Flax oil is thought to help or reduce the severity of over 60 different health concerns including heart attack, stroke, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, arthritis, osteoporosis, depression, bipolar disorder, macular degeneration, and chronic fatigue, and that is just the short list.

How does organic flax seed oil produce these benefits? The simple answer is by reducing inflammation in the body. How this happens is a far more complicated issue. Organic flax oil contain an omega fatty acid commonly known as ALA (alpha linolenic acid) which is converted to DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) by the body. DHA and EPA are thought to be the source of the health benefits and seem to reduce inflammation at a cellular level by keeping cell membranes pliable and healthy.

Where is organic flax seed oil found in nature? ALA is derived from plant based foods such walnuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, almonds, soybeans, olives, and leafy green vegetables. Additionally, many products are fortified or made with flax. An example would be flax bread or flax muffins.

Is there a downside to organic flax seed oil? There seems to be a couple of concerns most experts have expressed about flax seed /organic flax seed oil. The most pervasive seem to be the high content of omega 6 (linoleic acid). Some research suggests that the balance between omega 3 and omega 6 is vital to good health with a ration of 3 times more omega 6 (3:1) considered a healthy ratio. By some estimates the American style diet has a 20:1ratio due to its high red meat intake and low consumption of fatty fish. While taking organic flax seed oil doesn’t make the ratio any worse, it doesn’t do anything to bring it down either.

The second concern is that organic flax seed oil contains no natural DHA and EPA, only ALA. Once flax is ingested ALA is then converted to the DHA and EPA for use by the body. A lot can be lost in the conversion making finding the right dose paramount to receiving the anticipated health benefits.

Is organic flax seed oil worth considering? While most people will derive more natural benefits from pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil, organic flax seed oil is definitely worth considering. Some people just don’t care for fish or fish oil supplements for that matter, and for this group flax oil is an excellent alternative.

Guide for Troubleshooting Gas Furnace Problems

In the cold winter months, we rely on a gas furnace to warm up our homes. There is no doubt that heating consumes maximum energy (about 30 – 35 percent) in every home. Using an energy-effective gas furnace helps in reducing the expenses, as well as contributes a bit in conserving energy. However, it is obvious that any type of gas furnace model faces problems with regular usage and it requires repairing.

Gas Furnace: Parts and Working

Before discussing the problems, let’s try to understand the working of a gas furnace. It is a device that resembles a large box. Inside the box contains an air filter, gas burner, thermostat, induced draft fan, and circulating fan. As cold air is taken inside the furnace, it is filtered by the air filter. The filtered air is heated with the help of the gas burner, which is then circulated to the rooms with a blower motor. After heating the rooms, cold air is again returned to the gas furnace, via the ductwork. Thus, the cycle of cold air converting into warm air continues to liven up the rooms.

Gas Furnace: Troubleshooting Problems

Problems in Heat ProductionThis is the most commonly faced problem with a gas furnace. There are two possibilities of heat production problem; no heat production or insufficient heat production. The former case may be caused due low setting of thermostat and/or thermostat breakdown, blown fuse (or tripped circuit breaker), and pilot light defect. For troubleshooting this problem, clean the thermostat and check its settings. If the problem is in the circuit breaker or fuse, you can replace them. Insufficient heat production may be due to dirt accumulation in the air filter or air burner. Clean these parts and try readjusting the gas burner.

Pilot Light ProblemIf the pilot light goes off, it may be due to a problem in the drafts. You can troubleshoot this problem by following the manufacturer’s instruction (often attached to the furnace). In case, there are no instructions, you can follow some simple tips to relight the pilot light such as adjusting the pilot setting, cleaning the pilot light opening, and replacing the thermocouple.

Frequent Switching On and Off of Gas FurnaceThese problems are often caused due to dirty air filter and problem in the thermostat or blower motor. To repair any problem in these furnaces, check the thermostat. Try adjusting the heat anticipator and clean the air filter. If required, replace the air filter with a new one. In case, the problem is in the blower motor, you can lubricate the shafts. Also check the belt; a too loose or too tight belt can also cause these problems.

Gas LeakageThough a gas furnace is installed with a control shutoff system to avoid gas leaks, there are still possibilities of gas leakage. If you suspect the same, prepare a soapy solution by mixing liquid detergent and water. Apply this in the gas supply line and valves. If the soap water bubbles at a certain point, then you can confirm a gas leak problem. You can try tightening the area with a pipe wrench or call a serviceman. If you smell gas, it is advisable not to turn on the gas supply or touch any component of the device. Instead, come out of the house and report the gas leak to the fire department or gas company as soon as possible.

This was a brief guide for troubleshooting gas furnace problems. In case, you are not familiar with the device, it is always better to call a serviceman as there is a risk of fire and/or explosion, especially in furnaces with electronic ignition. Irrespective of the brand, regular servicing of the furnace unit is advisable to ensure proper functioning and also, to protect oneself from unwanted accidents.

Tablet Vs. Laptop: A Comparison

With all the hype surrounding new tablets such as the Apple iPad 2 and Mororolla Xoom, many people are announcing the beginning of the “post PC era”. However, before everyone goes and tosses their windows laptop into the street, it would be good to take a look at just what exactly a tablet can and can’t do.

Usability

There are many reasons that tablets have become so popular in recent years. Portability is one major benefit to a tablet, even over a laptop. Tablets are generally extremely thin and light, while some laptops like the Compaq laptop that I own weigh in at over 5 pounds. For college students like me, portability is necessary. Many people don’t want to be lugging around bulky laptops when you can have just as much functionality in a much smaller and more portable device. However, the lack of a physical keyboard on the iPad that I own is sometimes frustrating. When sitting down and typing out essays for classes, it is undoubtedly more efficient and less tiring for me to use a physical keyboard rather than a virtual one on a tablet. In that aspect, a laptop scores higher in my books for being easier to type quickly and error free on.

Performance

While the performance gap between laptops and tablets is indeed closing. Laptops clearly have an edge performance wise. This is especially the case with higher end laptops, where fully featured graphics cards and more than 4gb of ram really put the tablets to shame. It isn’t possible to play the newest and best computer games on tablets, although there are quite a few games designed specifically for them. Games like Angry Birds and Little Wings come to mind when thinking of tablet gaming. If browsing the web is your forte, however, a tablet might be just what you are looking for. The safari web browser on the iPad is top notch, giving a very laptop-like experience.

Looks

While there are definitely some cool and stylish laptops (ex. Sony Vaio), many people find the thin and sleek appearance of a tablet to be more appealing than that of a laptop. My iPad definitely has more of that “wow” factor than my laptop does.

Overall, tablets and laptops both have their ups and downs. Laptops will always have a spot with people who require heavy mobile performance; and tablets are slowly inching their way into the sights of people who just want a way to read their news at the local coffee shop.

Nokia’s former luxury division now selling ...

[More from BGR: Former exec: Microsoft is 'malfunctioning,' Surface tablets are a huge mistake]

But Vertu phones have always been handsets sold to people who either do not care about smartphones or actively hate them. The list of Vertu boutiques is highly revealing: Kazakhstan, Moldovia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia. In America, Vertus are sold in Bal Harbour, Coral Gables and Manhasset. Multi-millionaires who buy Vertus care more about bragging rights and sheer price than actual product performance.

[More from BGR: Full-size iPad's glory days may be over]

It will be very interesting to see where the new owners of Vertu will take the company design-wise. Over the past half  decade, the Vertu brand has mostly been associated with spectacularly tacky models like the $90,000 Vertu Diamond. The yellow gold pavé diamond version was just the thing for newly minted Moldovian natural gas billionaires and NBA wives at Coral Gables. It’s possible that EQT wants to take the brand down market and appeal to people with less money and possibly a little more taste.

Inside Nokia it was rumored for years that Vertu was unable to deliver genuine revenue growth after it saturated the nutty billionaire niche around the # time period. The Ti actually looks understated compared to the Arabian Nights meets Atlantic City fantasias Vertu produced a few years ago. It will be interesting to see how the repositioning works out.
