We have compared last week Asus Slider with Blackberry Playbook, so we though it can be useful to put head to head RIM’s tablet with Transformer too. as most probably know, the Tranformer was announced and released earlier than the Slider, being available since April this year, the same period with Blackberry Playbook. so, what’s inside these two tablets? Don’t know exactly what choosing? We’ll give you a hand by comparing both tablets’ specs.
When it comes to design, the Transformer is larger and more impressive with a bigger screen. Furthermore, it features an additional keyboard which is quite great and useful for many users. an incovenient is the fact that the tablet weights more, with 680 grams, while the Playbook has only 480. Being lighter with more than 40%, it’s a good reason to purchase BlackBerry Playbook, if you desire an ultraportable tablet. Likewise, in terms of exact dimensions. the Transformer is obviously taller, wider and thicker.
As we have mentioned, Asus Transformer has a larger display, more precisely a 10.1-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with LED backlight plus a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. if you prefer something smaller, the PlayBook is an excellent option. the tablet is equipped with a 7-inch capacitive screen and a lower resolution with 600 x 1024 pixels. both slates come with multi-touch input method or accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate. the Transformer has also a gyro sensor plus a scratch resistant screen.
In terms of camera, Blackberry Playbook and Asus Eee Pad Transformer include a 5 megapixel camera on the back with autofocus. both have also a secondary front facing camera with different megapixels. the Transformer has a lower 1.2MP cam, while the Playbook does a better job with a 3MP. Futhermore, the Playbook captures videos and images at full HD with 1080p, while the Transformer supports only 720p.
Probably one of the most important pieces inside a device is the processor, the part that coordinates everything. Asus Transformer is equipped with a fast 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core chip and 1GB of RAM, while Blackberry Playbook has also a dual core CPU Cortex A9 processor with a TI OMAP 4430 chipset also clocked at 1GHz. as far as the storage is concerned, the Transformer has two models: 16 GB and 32 GB, same as for the Playbook with an extra 64 GB.
If we were to take into consideration the software section, Asus Transformer has another plus with the Android operating system. it runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, while Blackberry Playbook includes BlackBerry Tablet OS with some games and features pre-installed plus more to be discovered. Why choosing the Transformer? it has the Android Market with over 270.000 apps while the PlayBook has the BlackBerry App World with less apps. Furthermore, the Android-based tablet will run multiple apps at once.
Regarding the connectivity part, both tablets are compatible with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP or Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g//n. We know that the pricing is also an important factor that counts when choosing a tablet. the BlackBerry PlayBook is already available in stores for $499 (16GB), $599 (32GB), and $699 (64GB), while Asus Eee Pad Transformer costs $400 without a dock for the 16GB model and the larger version is available for $500. if you wanna get the docking station, you’ll have to fork out an extra $150.
Reasons to consider the Transformer: a larger screen with a better resolution, a better software system with more apps available and the capability to run more at once, a more affordable price
Reasons to take into consideration the PlayBook: a smaller display, much more thinner and lighter, higher PPI screen, more storage with the extra 64GB model, 1080p video recording.
