Get a 10-inch Acer Iconia tablet for $159.99

How crazy-good aretablet deals getting? So good that I couldn’t even wait for “Tablet Tuesday.”

Today only, and while supplies last, 1SaleADay has the refurbished Acer Iconia Tab A200 10-inch Android tablet for $159.99, plus $4.99 for shipping. That’s without a doubt one of the lowest prices I’ve seen on a name-brand 10-inch tablet.

The A200 is the slightly downgraded version of the A500. It comes with a 1,280×800-pixel screen, 8GB of storage (easily expandable via dirt-cheap microSD cards), a front-facing camera, Bluetooth, GPS, andAndroid 3.2 (which you can easily bump to Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, via an over-the-air update).

So, what doesn’t the A200 have that the A500 does? two key items: an HDMI output and a rear-facing camera. Personally, I can live without both, though obviously they might be deal breakers for some.

On the plus side, the A200 offers nicely rounded corners, a wonderfully grippy backside, and a slightly lighter design (though still pretty hefty at 1.56 pounds).

CNET rated the A200 three stars, bemoaning those aforementioned missing features. However, that was back in February, when the tablet was selling for $330 (!). at today’s price, it’s a lot easier to forgive those omissions, especially when you consider that popular 7-inch tablets (like theKindle Fire and Nook Tablet) have no HDMI output and no cameras at all — and sell for $199.

So once again I have to pose the question, “What’s the best screen size for a tablet?” I mean, when you take price out of the equation, which you can now do, what’s your preference: 7-inch or 10-inch? Personally, I think it’s worth owning both.

Acer backs the refurbished A200 with a 90-day warranty. That’s really the only downside to this otherwise stellar deal. Let me know if you’re planning to jump on it.

Bonus deal: Need more HDMI ports? Ice Monkey once again has the Kinivo five-port HDMI switch for $24.99 shipped. (It’s $39 at Amazon, where it has a 4.5-star rating.) the switch turns one HDMI port into five, autoswitches to the active input, and comes with an IR remote.

Acer A700 tablet impressions: Taking on the iPad ...

Our impressions of the Acer Iconia Tab A700, one of the first tablets to take on the iPad at an affordable price. Android 4.0, a quad-core processor, and a full HD screen help push this to the front of the Android lineup.

Not everyone may like the iPad, but its screen is quite nice. thanks to the laws of competition, we’re already seeing the competition attempt to catch up and move ahead of Apple. the Acer Iconia Tab A700 is one of the first premium post-iPad 3 tablets we spent a lot of time with, and so far, it’s looking quite nice, with a quad-core processor and full HD screen.

The A700 looks excessively similar to other recent Acer tablets like the A200 and A500, but now comes in the electronic world’s two favorite colors: silver and black. the form factor is pretty standard for iPad competitors running Android. it has a 10.1-inch screen and its only about 1.5 pounds. on the outside, there is nothing to rave about, design-wise, but Acer has steadily improved the look of their tablets, and this one looks about as good as most of the competition. few will likely turn an A700 down due to its style. Really, it’s what’s on the inside, and on that 10.1-inch screen, that counts.

The screen of the Acer A700 has been improved significantly from previous models. Most Android tablets have stuck with a 1280×800 pixel resolution, but Acer has bumped the pixel count up significantly to the widescreen equivalent of 1080p: 1920 x 1200 pixels. the new screen appears more vivid and sharp than other Android tablets. Like the iPad’s new retina display, it’s not a change that will shock you to your core, but it’s hard to go back to a pixely world once everything is smoothed over. 1080p is a natural evolution for tablets. I’m not sure how much impact future resolution bumps might have on the experience, but this increase makes sense. the screen is also LED backlit and has wide 178-degree viewing angle — important for a tablet.

In addition to increasing the resolution of the new Iconia Tab, Acer is one of the first companies to take the plunge and incorporate a 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor into its tablet. the Tegra 3 actually boosts processing power and battery life, making a bit of a win-win for consumers. Acer reps told me that battery life for the A700 is actually better than its predecessors. They’re claiming video playback can reach 10.5 to 13 hours, depending on whether you are using Wi-Fi or not. If Web surfing is all you do, a charge should last you 8 hours. there have been some tests showing that the Tegra 3 might not live up to the new iPad’s power, but it’s difficult to do a direct comparison between the two because of the difference in operating systems. the Tegra 3 is currently one of the best options we’ve seen for tablet processors. From our two hands-on experiences with the tablet earlier this year and a few weeks ago, the A700 seems snappier than previous models, but we haven’t been able to perform any rigorous tests.

Android 4.0 is also loaded. Since it comes from the PC world, Acer doesn’t have a history of tinkering around with the design and functionality of operating systems, which makes it one of few companies that leave Android alone, for the most part. the A700 runs a mostly clean version the OS, with Acer’s only modification being the addition of some apps, widgets, and an “Acer Ring” that lets you coverflow your way through recent activities and launch your favorite apps. the Ring can be customized in the settings menu.

The A700 also comes with 32GB of internal flash storage, Dolby-enhanced speakers (they still are pretty quiet, like all tablets), 1GB of RAM, a microSD slot capable of supporting 64GB cards, a 5MP rear camera, a “HD” front camera, and common features like GPS and Bluetooth (2.1).

Overall, we’re fairly impressed with the A700. Acer hasn’t leapfrogged Apple, but it is now offering a comparable product to the new iPad. And unlike other vendors, the A700 is actually cheaper as well. Acer is taking US and Canada pre-orders starting today for $450, or $50 less than the iPad. It’s not as cheap as we wish it was, but Acer appears to have a good leg up on the Android competition, when it comes to price and features.

The Iconia Tab A510, Acer’s most powerful ...

The Acer Iconia Tab A510 is the company’s fastest, most powerful Android tablet yet — and you can pre-order this quad-core device today.

Although Android tablets have yet to take off in the manners that Apple iPads have, it’s still nice to see that we as consumers have options in this market. If you refuse to be a part of Apple’s pandemonium, perhaps you will enjoy the latest Android tablet from Acer, the Iconia Tab A510.

We previously reviewed the Iconia Tab A500 and found it to pack quite a value, so we hope to be as impressed with Acer’s first tablet with a Quad Core Tegra 3 processor, meaning the device should run fast, fast, fast. the upgraded processor can enhance up to “2.6 times the performance” and “three times the graphics performance compared to previous generation processors,” according to a statement by Acer. The Iconia Tab A510 will also contain the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich so you can enjoy the newest operation system until Google releases Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie, the next editions of scrumptiously-named Android.

The screen size, however, remains at its trusty, portable 10.1-inch screen. its 1280 x 800 resolution features 720p high definition visuals and can play 1080p videos, all while blasting Dolby Digital sound. the tablet will also have a five megapixel main camera and a single-megapixel front facing shooter for video chats or self portraits. Lastly, it will come with 32 GB of internal memory and 1 GB of RAM, and its upgraded battery is capable of running on approximately 12 hours of video playback. You can also increase the memory size through a Micro SD card reader that will support an extra 32 GB of content.

“The new Acer Iconia Tab A510 will exceed the expectations of customers who are ready to embrace using their tablets for more fun, entertainment and a first-rate mobile gaming experience,” said Paul Tayar, director of product marketing for connected devices, Acer America.

Tayar also notes that this new model of the Iconia Tab aims to be more productivity-inducing, with great apps like Polaris Office 3.5 and Evernote pre-installed to help you get things done.

“[I]ts comprehensive suite of productivity apps … will enable them to remain productive and connected on-the-go,” he said. Other pre-installed applications include Netflix, Kindle, and Google Music. the tablet can support HDMI to VGA conversions so you can connect it to a projector to use for office presentations or home entertainment.

Sounds like a good deal? Customers in the United States and Canada and pre-order the Acer Iconia A510 today at online retailers for $450 and get a selection of silver or black casing. While there are no words yet on when the tablet will ship, the special edition models will celebrate and sponsor the upcoming 2012 Olympic games in London by featuring the five Olympic rings on the back of the tablet.

If you’re not in a hurry, no problem. Digital Trends will keep you posted with our hands on review of the unit as soon as it arrives.

The firm has issued a US press release saying that its Iconia Tab A200, A500 and A100 will all get ICS. We’ve spoken with Acer, which confirmed that all of the tablets will be upgradeable in the UK.

The A200 will get the update first, starting already in the US, with the A500 and A100 lagging slightly behind in April. Acer hasn’t confirmed specific dates for the UK.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream ...

It looks like Acer is up next for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. After initially launching the new Iconia A200 tablet last month and promising a quick update to ICS, we can safely say it is finally rolling out today. It’s nice to see them sticking to their promise. Stating the update would come in February — and here it is. available for download right now.

The update should be hitting tablets right this moment and as you can see from the screenshot below Acer has updated the slate from Honeycomb to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. Version 4.0.4 that leaked last week was only for the Galaxy Nexus, making the A200 on the latest version officially from Google.

The update brings your tablet to build number Acer_AV041_A200_1.037.00_PA_CUS1 and should only take a few minutes to download and install. as usual the tablet should notify users of an update but you can manually check and get started now. just go to settings > about tablet > system update and get it started right now. I’m sure many are wondering where this same update is for the older A500 that surely has more owners. Most likely it is coming soon as Acer also promised a timely update for that tablet too.

Give the update a try and sound off in the comment section should you have any problems, or find some special hidden tricks or features.

Acer Iconia A200 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling ...

Apart from selling PCs and laptops, Acer also manufactures Android powered handsets and tablets. While its Android devices have not exactly managed to gain as much popularity as the company would have hoped for, Acer still continues to support them.

Now, it looks like Acer has started rolling out the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Iconia A200 tablet. While the company has not officially confirmed the news, quite a few A200 owners are reporting that they have already got the Ice Cream Sandwich update on their tablet.

The Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Iconia A200 brings with it an improved performance, new widgets, enhanced UI and more.

This update makes the A200 the first tablet from Acer to get the Ice Cream Sandwich update. It also makes the A200 among the first few Android tablets from any manufacturer to get the ICS update. Kudos to Acer for beating Samsung to this!

Hopefully, Acer will also be updating its other Iconia tablets like the A100, A500 to Ice Cream Sandwich, sooner than later.

CES 2012: Acer Iconia A700 10.1 tablet features ...

The Iconia A700 will be the company’s second attempt at a flagship, 10.1-inch Android tablet. the Iconia A700 looks to be a considerable step up from the firm’s previous tablets, now featuring the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. Not only does the tablet boast some impressive specifications, but the design looks much better than the existing Acer A500 Iconia Tab and the build quality feels sturdy too.

The Acer tablet will follow in the footsteps of the Asus Transformer Prime, and will ship with the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. We were impressed with the speed of Acer tablet during our hands on. when pinching-to-zoom there was no redrawing and the device handled HD video playback comfortably. the display resolution allowed by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor is on the level of a mid-range desktop computer monitor.

The tablet’s 10.1in display with 1920×1200 resolution was reasonably bright in low lighting, when tuning it on the brightest setting. Acer claims that the screen boasts quality that is better than IPS displays on the market and the viewing angle on the tablet was impressive, as we were able to view text and video when the device was flat on the table and we were looking at it side on.

Acer will pre-load Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the device and has added some of its own customisations. Top of the list includes the Acer Ring, which allows users to access applications quickly from the lock screen by pressing and holding on the screen and choosing the app they want to open.

January 10 CES roundup: Taylor talks with NVIDIA, ...

Feel that calm in the air? Has your computer quit smoking from your RSS reader going nuts? that can only mean one thing during CES week: The show has actually started! The first day of CES is nothing like “Day 0.” Day 0 is when all the press events happen, when all the big products are announced and when blogs go crazy and publish something like 30 stories on one operating system. (Yes, we actually did). of course just because today was slower, it doesn’t mean we didn’t see some great new products or hear any interesting industry news. Here’s the best of the best from CES day 1.

Hands-on videos

Once the big companies are done announcing their products, bloggers finally get a chance to take a look at the devices and share their first impressions. Today, Edgar got a look at two upcoming Tegra 3 tablets, while Nick took a tour of the AT&T Galaxy Note.

The first tablet Edger looked at was the Acer Iconia A510. he said that while the 10-inch slab feels physically similar to the A500, the Tegra 3 “offers a notable performance boost.”

After the A510, Edgar got his hands on 7-inch ZTE tablet, which was very similar to the $249 ASUS MeMo we saw detailed yesterday. The 7-inch ZTE also comes with Tegra 3 and Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich, so it’s really going to come down to price as far as how this tablet sells. to take a look at Edgar’s hands-on video with ZTE’s 7-inch Tegra 3 tablet, check out his post on it.

Edgar wasn’t the only member of team Android and Me playing around with newly announced devices. Nick spent a couple minutes learning the ins and outs of an AT&T LTE enabled Samsung Galaxy Note. you can check out his video below, but be sure to read the post paired with it for some gorgeous pictures of the device.

Intel

One company who did have a keynote scheduled for today was Intel. we knew Intel was going to come to CES with a reference device or two, maybe even a production model, but they dropped a bombshell when they announced a multi-year mobile partnership with Motorola.

That’s right. thanks to a partnership formed between Intel and Motorola, Atom powered Android phones and tablets manufactured by the big M will be available as soon as this summer. of course no products were announced, or even hinted at for that matter, but if Motorola Atom phones really are only 5-6 months away, we should be seeing some leaks real soon.

Until then, we can always gauge the performance of Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 in the Lenovo K800 come Q2. Sometime in the second quarter, the Lenovo K800 will launch with an Intel Atom and 4.5-inch 720p display. It’s unlikely the K800 will ever touch down in the US, but that doesn’t mean that, once it does launch in China, we won’t hear all about it.

Intel also had a reference handset on display today that featured a 1.6GHz Atom and Gingerbread. We’ll let you know if we can get our hands on it.

Google TV

One product still going strong today was Google TV.

While Dot TV announced it was bringing multiplayer gaming to Sony Google TVs (you can use your Android handset as a controller!), and LG announced Gaikai cloud game streaming would be coming to their CINEMA 3D Google TV, Vizio detailed two Google TV sets and two set-top boxes.

Both Google TVs from Vizio feature 65-inch displays and a custom build of Honeycomb with Vizio’s VIA plus UI. one features better back lighting and will be a little more expensive. but if Vizio keeps up with its current pricing structures, they should still be more affordable than other similar spec’d sets on the market.

Vizio took that same approach — one high and one lower-end model, to their Google TV set-top boxes. one features a Blu-ray player, while one does not. Look for all Vizio’s Google TV products to be made available soon.

Taylor talks with NVIDIA

Last year at CES, Android and Me debuted a series of videos that we titled Android Insiders. This year, the tradition continues as Taylor got a chance to chat it up with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang.

So just what did Taylor and Jen-Hsun talk about? The success of Tegra 2, the future of Tegra 3, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jen-Hsun’s favorite Android device and more. it may just be our most shining moment of CES 2012 so far.

To watch the fifteen minute video, check out the Android Insiders post.

Acer updates tablet line with Iconia Tab A200: ...

Acer is finally dishing out the details on the North American release of its Iconia Tab A200.

The 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A200 picks up where the A500 left off, offering a 1280 x 800 10.1-inch screen, dual-core Tegra 2 processor, a full-size USB port and a microSD slot. And it’s also fairly cheap. Acer plans to sell the 8GB version for $329 and the 16GB model for $349.

While it’s reasonable to expect that Android tablets released within the next few weeks would be running Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, thats not the case with the Iconia A200, which is equipped with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Fortunately, Acer plans to offer a free upgrade to the latest Android version come February.

As for the release date itself, expect the device on January 15th.
