How To Shop For Amazon Kindle Covers

You’ve received your the latest Amazon Kindle. Congrats and welcome to the club. At this point , you’re seeking a way for you to guard your Kindle and I’m about to share with you the different possibilities available for purchase.

The first option to safeguard your personal Kindle is using a protective cover. A cover will help make the Kindle feel comparable to a book. It has a front cover that opens up.. Usually on the inside of the cover will be soft sided so when it closes, it will not scratch your Kindle screen. Many covers are made of a synthetic leather or authentic natural leather. They don’t create much bulk.

The best-selling Kindle covers are manufactured by Amazon. They come in many different colors. Amazon also makes a cover that has a built-in light that’s powered from your Kindle when it is mounted. How terrific is that? The way the Kindle remains contained in the cover is by using a patented hinge system. There are actually small holes on the left edge of a Kindle that fit in right into hinges from the cover. Therefore it stays secure and will not fall out. A few book style covers utilizes corner pieces to anchor the Kindle into place.

If you’d rather to enjoy your Kindle naked, which means with out a cover on it, perhaps a sleeve is what you want. Many folks really love the look and feel of the ultra-thin Kindle in his or her hands while reading. A sleeve safeguards your Kindle whenever you are not using it. You can put it inside of your handbag, bookbag, or any bag with out being worried about it having scuff marks or nicks. The outside is commonly made from a cushioned nylon material and the inside is usually lined with microfiber or some other soft materials which gives your Kindle a cushion when it is inside.

The Kindle is the best-selling ebook even when there are competitive competitors on the market. Amazon will nevertheless lead the e-book group for several years. Now companies including Kate Spade and Cole Haan are getting into creating Kindle covers. In the future, so many more companies and brands will get into this niche to sell Kindle covers.

No matter whether you get a cover or sleeve, each offer a plethora of different colors and styles. You’ll find a design that suits you. Anything you do decide, be sure to protect your Kindle.

Apple iBookstore Offers New Publisher Support ...

The Apple iBookstore is a valued option for many publishing companies to make some money from their ebooks. Recently Apple rolled out new support options that will make getting information and support easier than ever. If your company has an iTunes Connect account, there is a new option to call a publishing support service via the telephone.  you can call the support line at any time for any issue the company already covers under email support. That includes publishing and tax problems, ePub and iBooks Author questions, sales information, and more. Calls are toll-free from the United States and Canada.

Apple is one of the few companies out there that now gives you the ability to phone them up with your digital publishing questions. Amazon, who is one of the biggest digital publishing companies, only has a simple email support feature. many publishers and indie authors find that getting their support tickets answered sometimes takes a few days, if at all.

The new telephone support line is available for publishers Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.  you can find the full list of contact phone numbers HERE.

Amazon press event set for September 6, new ...

Amazon has sent out invitations for a mystery press conference on September 6 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. the company remained tight-lipped on the exact nature of the event, but if last year's is anything to go by, it's likely we will see several Kindle product refreshes ahead of the busy Christmas shopping period.

“I’d assume it’s some more Kindle fire models, including at least one with a 10-inch screen,” said Kerry Rice, an analyst at Needham & co. “They’ll be priced very competitively, at lower price points than most, if not all their competitors.”

News of the upcoming event follow a report last month suggesting we could see as many as four Kindle fire 2 variants revealed. they range from a 7-inch base model with a 1024 x 768 pixel display right through to an 8.9-inch version with a 1920×1200 pixel display. other variants include 4G connectivity, cameras and all of them are rumored to include a pixel density of 216 PPI.

the Kindle e-readers are likely to receive a refresh as well, with the next-generation devices expected to feature integrated reading lights, following in the footsteps of competitor Barnes and Noble’s Nook Simple Touch released back in April.

Amazon’s Kindle devices have proven very popular in the UK since their launch two years ago. Earlier this month the online retailer announced that Kindle ebook sales now outpace sales of printed physical books on their website. in contrast, the Seattle-based firm noted last year that it took them almost four years to achieve the same milestone in the US.

Apple iPad Mini – A Strategic Move

By Ashish Sharma – August 16, 2012 | Tickers: AMZN, AAPL, GOOG | 0 Comments

Ashish is a member of the Motley Fool Blog Network — entries represent the personal opinions of our bloggers and are not formally edited.

There have been continuous rumors of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) releasing its new iPad mini to compete in the 7” tablet market. recently a blog site iMore indicated that Apple will announce the iPad mini on September 12 following the information coming from sources that have “proven to be accurate in the past.” We believe that the launch (if happens!) will add to the future prospects of Apple and remain positive on the strategic implications going forward.

What:

The 7″ tablet market is currently dominated by Amazon’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Kindle fire and Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Nexus 7. We believe that Apple with its own offering of iPad mini might try to fill the product gap in this low pricing segment. There are speculations and rumors surrounding the market which suggest that Apple might be launching iPad mini with an A5 processor (same as that of iPad2) and 3G/4G connectivity option. We believe that the Apple iPad mini might come in 2 SKUs of lower capacities to help provide cannibalization of iPad which currently comes with capacity options of 16, 32 and 64 GB.

Why:

We believe that the launch of an iPad mini is more of a strategic move rather than a financial one by apple in wake of its recent conflicts with Google. while Apple iPad holds a dominant market share in the full size tablet segment due to its first mover advantage and powerful ecosystem, Apple is unable to tap the potential from the consumer demand in the smaller and less expensive tablet market. while the iPad is too expensive, iPod Touch lags functionality-wise and is too small to address reading needs. Apple with its entry into the lower price segment is trying to maintain its leadership position in the tablet market and prevent competitors from increasing their market share.

Strategic Implications:

1) This move could help Apple to expand its addressable market into the price sensitive segment with its more affordable pricing. We believe that in the long term this move can help Apple to expand into emerging markets like China and India, who might prefer Apple products with lower price points over Google and Amazon.

2) As Apple products have shown a higher level of stickiness with intent to repurchase, we believe that this move might increase up-sell opportunities for Apple.

3) Apple might generate higher revenues from the iTunes and App store with an increased user base.

4) An iPad mini launch might potentially help Apple, if Apple tries to enter into the payment business (As Google has tried with Google Wallet) as Apple gathers payment account info through iTunes and App Store.

5) Apple has been trying to gain traction in the education vertical with its low priced iPad2. We believe that iPad mini with its affordable costs might further help Apple expanding its footprints in the education vertical.

Financial Implications:

As far as the financial implications go we believe that iPad mini might not be such a revenue needle mover for Apple. if we assume that Apple iPad mini would sell 20 million units (considering that Apple iPad sold 20 million units in the first year) in year one at a price point of around $200, the revenues would come at around $4 billion or ~3% of total revenues excluding the cannibalization effects it would have on iPad sales.

The bottom Line:

Apple, following its rivalry with Google, is trying to deny any standing to Google into its stronghold market. while the financial implications of the mini might be negligible for Apple, the release would open the way for several strategic growth alternatives for Apple in the long term. We believe that a launch of Apple mini might give investors another reason to buy Apple with the new Apple iPhone 5 release already acting as a potential catalyst for the stock in the near term.

Amazon updates Cloud Player with scan and match ...

Those licensing deals Amazon signed with major record labels just paid off: the company has today updated its Cloud Player service with a scan and match feature that will automatically upgrade eligible songs in your iTunes or Windows Media collection to 256kbps audio files in the cloud. the new format will replace prior tracks you’ve uploaded (which will remain available in an archived folder) the next time users sign in, and Amazon says the entire process shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. From there, all music you import in the future will automatically be matched in the same fashion so long as Amazon has the necessary rights to do so. If a particular track or album can’t be matched, it will need to be uploaded manually.

To coincide with the new matching service, Amazon is also changing the subscription model for users that want to stream music from the cloud. Anyone will be able to store up to 250 songs with Cloud Player at no cost, but if your library demands more storage you’ll need to sign up for Cloud Player Premium. Priced at $24.99 annually, this option allows users to import up to 250,000 songs in Cloud Player. like before, Amazon MP3 purchases will not count against this allotment: it only applies to music you’ve obtained elsewhere.

The news also means that as of today, Cloud Player and Cloud Drive are considered separate subscriptions, though customers who’ve signed up for the latter will receive Cloud Player Premium at no additional cost during the remaining term of their Cloud Drive plan.

Amazon has also introduced a number of nice upgrades to Cloud Player with the latest update. First and foremost, you can finally edit metadata for the songs in your library. further, past Amazon MP3 purchases (that qualify for matching) no longer need to be manually imported into Cloud Player — they’ll instantly appear with the rest of your library. in terms of playback, the same limits apply: you can use Cloud Player on up to 10 devices with a single Amazon account. as part of the announcement, Amazon has also revealed that Cloud Player will soon be coming to Roku and Sonos media players.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Can Now Be Pre-ordered

Update: J&R has pulled down the pre-order pages for this tablet, indicating that it did not intend to actually start taking orders at this time.

The long wait for the Galaxy Note 10.1 is apparently almost over. This Samsung tablet is now available for pre-order, and is rumored to be launching by the end of this month.

This device can be ordered from J&R, but at this point that’s the only option, suggesting this might be a mistake. In June, Amazon started taking pre-orders for the Note 10.1 but quickly stopped.

Still, an unconfirmed report from last month indicated that this tablet is going to launch on July 30, just a few weeks from now. J&R did not confirm this, just saying the product is “coming soon”.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was unveiled back in February, but Samsung pushed back the release after deciding to find room in the design for a slot to hold the “S Pen” stylus.

More about the Tablet

This model is going to debut running Google Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on a 1.4GHz quad-core processor made by Samsung itself. It will have 1GB of RAM.

It will have all the usual bundled Android apps, plus Samsung has added a number developed especially to take advantage of the S Pen, including software for taking handwritten notes, drawing, and more.

Not surprisingly, this tablet is going to have a 10.1-inch display. This will have a 1280 x 800 resolution.

There will be two versions depending on the amount of internal storage capacity. A 16GB one will cost $550, while the 32GB version is going to be $50 more. J&R is taking pre-orders for both, and is offering them at $50 below the suggested cost.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 will have Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, but the models being offered by J&R will not have cellular-wireless data.

Other features are going to include a microSD memory card slot, 5 MP rear-facing camera, 1.9 MP front camera, GPS, and a 7000mAh battery.

TabletPCReview had some hands-on time with this device when it was first announced. Check out our first thoughts.

Apple's iPad gains market share, new threats ...

Apple’s iPad gobbled up even more of the tablet market last quarter, but the arena is about to get a lot more crowded in the second half of 2012.

according to Strategy Analytics, the iPad accounted for 68.3 percent of global tablet shipments last quarter. That’s up nearly 10 percent from the fourth quarter of 2012, and up 7 percent year-over-year.

in other words, Apple is pulling away from competitors such as Amazon’s Kindle fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet. those tablets got off to a strong start last holiday season, but went cold in 2012 according to Yankee Group and other analysts.

Apple’s actual market share is probably even higher than Strategy Analytics lets on. Apple says it sold 17 million iPads to consumers last quarter, which is the same number Strategy Analytics uses in its report. but for all other tablet makers, the firm only counts “shipments,” which includes unsold inventory on store shelves. Strategy Analytics doesn’t tell us how many people have actually bought tablets running Android, Windows or other operating systems.

The outlook may seem bleak for iPad competitors, but there are a couple bright spots ahead. Google just launched its Nexus 7 tablet, and although the company hasn’t released sales figures, the 7-inch tablet is in short supply at retailers.

if the reviews are any indication, the Nexus 7 won’t just be a holiday stocking stuffer, but rather a low-cost tablet that people actually love. Apple is rumored to be planning a small, low-cost tablet to compete with the Nexus 7 and its ilk, but for Android could enjoy a much-needed boost in market share.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is prepping its Windows 8 tablet, the Surface, and other PC makers are preparing their own Windows 8 tablets and hybrids. where larger Android tablets failed, Microsoft hopes to succeed with better developer support and some neat features, such the ability to snap two apps together on the screen. Windows also has a huge user base already, so as long as this major OS overhaul doesn’t scare them away, it could be the first credible challenger to the 9.7-inch iPad.

The mobile device market is full of so many twists and turns that it’s nearly impossible to predict what will happen. (One example: a year ago, Garner thought HP’s WebOS would still have 3 percent market share in 2015. now it’s not even counting.) but one thing is certain as ever: The iPad isn’t going anywhere.

Making light work of heavy tomes

IT'S not a tablet, but it borrows tablet features.

Amazon’s most advanced e-book reader ditches buttons, throws away its keyboard and delivers a touchscreen instead.

The Kindle Touch 3G, the fourth to reach Australia, has further tricks up its sleeve. it is 11 per cent smaller and 8 per cent lighter than its predecessor, has a clearer Electronic Ink screen and can be used right out of the box. Those diving into its menus will appreciate a new speaker that lets the Kindle read to them, and Wikipedia and Google searches.

While this Kindle has received a technological overhaul, it doesn’t feel too different and its 220g will go unnoticed in your hand during long reading sessions or in your bag.

Turn it on, however, and old users may need help to navigate that new touchscreen.

Its screen is split into three touchy areas: one large landing pad on right side, a small column down the left, and a bar up top. Users tap the right area to turn a page, the left to turn back and the top area to get its menu. A "home" button shows its list of books. This new touchy-feely approach makes it very easy to navigate books and Amazon’s virtual bookstore, although menu options can be confusing at first.

The touchscreen can also be used to look up words in its dictionary (by holding a finger on a word), to engage text-to-speech that reads books out loud, to change the font or font size, and to perform web searches using its included 3G internet connection.

Despite these extras, its battery will still run for up to two months with 3G off.

Unfortunately, Australians don’t get the discounts afforded by Amazon’s sponsored Kindles and face a more limited e-book range. But the device delivers a simple and comfortable way to read large tomes.

Is the Kindle Fire 2 Incoming?

The Kindle Fire 2, Amazon’s expected upcoming Android-based media tablet, is rumored to be in production to ship starting as early as July, according to the China Times. if rumors are true, the tablet will again be built by Quanta, the same company that built the original Fire and Research in Motion’s Blackberry PlayBook tablet. According to the report, the Fire 2 will have a metallic frame, but there is no word on the size or components.

The Kindle Fire uses a highly modified version of Android, and offers complete access to its Prime service for owners. We reviewed the Kindle Fire back in November.

The original Kindle Fire sold at a loss for Amazon, and that is unlikely to change with the Fire 2, especially now that it has a new competitor in the Nexus 7.

Amazon has reportedly ordered two million Fire 2 units.

The Kindle Fire 2 was originally expected to release on August 7th, but according to the report may be announced and released in July or August. what do you think? Are you interested in the Kindle Fire 2?
