Max Payne Mobile now out on Android

Almost two months back we posted that Max Payne Mobile will be available for iOS and Android devices. But due to some delays, Rockstar Game’s deadline for the Android release was not met.

But now the long wait is finally over as the much anticipated third-person shooting game is now available for Android. But before you get too excited we suggest checking if your device is listed under supported devices.

• Motorola Razr• Motorola Atrix• Motorola Photon• Motorola Droid Bionic• HTC Rezound• HTC One X and S• HTC Evo 3D• HTC Sensation• HTC Droid Incredible 2• Samsung Galaxy Nexus• Samsung Nexus• Samsung Galaxy Note• Samsung S2• Samsung Galaxy R• Sony Xperia Play and S• Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player

• Acer Iconia,• Asus Eee Pad Transformer• Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime• LG Optimus Pad• Medion Lifetab• Motorola Xoom• Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 / 10.1• Sony Tablet S• Sony Tablet P• Toshiba Thrive• HTC Flyer• HTC Jetstream

Didn’t find your device? Don’t fret because when I went to Google Play website (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockstar.maxpayne) I saw some of the review units that I tried before and most of them got a check mark which I assume should be able to run the game. I haven’t really tried installing the game on each of those phones since most of them are already returned. Here’s a screenshot of my Google Play Account with the listing of device.

And speaking of game installation, make sure to make room in your phone’s memory as this resource-heavy game requires a whopping 1.3GB of free storage in order for you to install it.

Max Payne Mobile will cost you Php186.26. It’s a bit costly but from the looks of things, we think that it’s going to be worth every peso, especially if you plan to play it on an NVidia Tegra 3 quad-core powered device as this game is especially optimized for such devices. We think that this may be attributed for the delayed launch. anyway, hit us back if you were able to install and play the game on your Android device.

Best Android tablets with 4G

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 shows off one of its credentials.

(Credit:Josh Miller/CNET)

The 4G future we’ve been promised for years now has arrived. and it’s not just for smartphones. We’ve been playing around with 4GAndroidtablets ever since the T-Mobile G-Slate back in early 2011.

We can argue the semantics of 4G, but when a Johnny-come-lately like Apple comes around bragging about its tablet’s 4G data capabilities, we can’t resist pointing out all of the great Android tablets that beat it to the punch.

Sony Tablet PHere’s something a 4GiPad can’t do: fit in your pocket!

Ok, so we weren’t entirely sold on the Tablet P’s dual-screen design, but you have to hand it to Sony for trying something different. this tablet runs Android 3.2 and comes with a suite of unique Sony apps and content, including Music Unlimited and game titles from its PSOne archive.

Read the full review of the Sony Tablet P.

Motorola Droid XyBoard 8.2The Xyboard 8.2 is a powerful tablet, running on Verizon’s robust 4G LTE network. its 8.2-inch screen strikes a nice compromise between the more common 7-inch and 10.1-inch competitors, making it better for thumb-typing when held in portrait orientation. it doesn’t come cheap, though, and the only affordable way to acquire one involves a two-year contract.

Read the full review of the Motorola Droid XyBoard 8.2.

Motorola Droid XyBoard 10.1As the successor to the Motorola Xoom, the XyBoard 10.1 is a standard-bearer for Honeycomb tablets. But aside from its 4G data capability, its design and features do little to help this tablet stand out from more daring (and less expensive) Android tablets, such as the Asus Transformer Prime.

Read the full review of the Motorola Droid XyBoard 10.1.

T-Mobile SpringBoard the Huawei-designed T-Mobile SpringBoard harkens back to another early adopter of 4G, the HTC EVO View 4G. this 7-inch tablet offers a beautiful screen and stylish design, and doesn’t skimp on the specs, either. unfortunately, like many tablets on this list, the SpringBoard comes at a relatively high price, not to mention requiring a two-year contract.

Read the full review of the T-Mobile SpringBoard.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 the Motorola Xoom may have been the first Honeycomb tablet, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was the first to make us swoon. its iPad 2-matching thickness and lightweight construction make it a great travel companion. unfortunately, its iPad idolization carried through to its one-port design and absence of memory expansion.

Read the full review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9Arguably our current favorite among all the Galaxy Tabs (there are plenty), the 8.9 hits a sweet spot of portability, design, and pixel density. Throw in Samsung’s unique customizations of Android 3.2, and you have one of the more interesting and capable iPad alternatives money can buy.

Read the full review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.

So there you have it, our top picks for 4G Android tablets. with any luck, the new iPad’s contract-free 4G data plans will trickle over to some of these great tablets to give them a fighting chance.

Which smartphone or tablet display does best in ...

Tired of squinting at your smartphone or tablet display on a bright sunny day? we may have the answer for you, then. DisplayMate Technologies president Dr. Raymond Soneira took a look at four tablets and four smartphones, gauging their performance in a wide range of lighting conditions from absolute darkness to indirect outdoor sunlight.

Apple and Samsung’s displays took top honors, with the iPhone 4, iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy S, and Tab 10.1 taking top honors. Doing much worse was Amazon’s Kindle fire, while the HTC Desire, Motorola Xoom and Droid X also fared poorly. Overall, it appears by a slight margin Samsung’s displays are the best, while Dr. Soneira found the HTC Desire as the worst performer.

Soneira’s tests find that HTC has a lot of work to do on its displays. at a level of 20,000 lux, which is equivalent to full indirect outdoor sunlight, the display is unusable. Tablet-wise, the worst performer was the Kindle fire, which shows similar readability problems at 20,000 lux and above.

“Other than jacking up the screen Brightness, manufacturers have done very little to improve screen readability and picture quality under high ambient lighting,” Dr. Soneira says. His company sells the software which he uses to judge the displays, which it says will also correct the problem. In other words? this guy has a vested financial interest in the results. regardless, it’s a good look into what electronics manufacturers still need to do to improve displays.

We’ve heard a ton about Gorilla Glass, but in the end Corning was more focused on making thin, unbreakable glass than working on light reflectivity issues, where a lot of readability issues when it comes to ambient light come from. So that’s not the answer either.

Apple’s made a lot of hay over its Retina display and its advantages. while it has done wonders for the readability and clarity of these displays, it’s done jack for their readability in bright light — and DisplayMate has already said the display isn’t that great. since we’re becoming ever more dependent on these devices, this is a problem that begs for a fix. “while Apple and Samsung are currently the best performers in high ambient light, it is possible to do substantially better with advanced scientific lab tests and analysis”, Soneira says.

I doubt for one second that Apple will reach outside of its bubble in Cupertino for help, but you have to think they would be interested in Soneira’s findings. Other companies like HTC and Amazon look like they could benefit greatly from this work — putting it bluntly their displays are pretty crappy. then again, they do say you get what you pay for, right?

Motorola Xyboard tablet

 Hey all you keyboard Casanova’s,

Valentine’s is almost here and there is an ongoing forum concerning the way technology has affected romance which, if you would like to participate, can be found here.

Meanwhile, I have been testing the newest Motorola tablet, the Xyboard, for the last week or so (Courtesy of Ashley at Jeff Dezen PR), using both WiFi and Verizon’s rockin 4G LTE network.

As per my usual, I won’t list the specs. You can get them directly from the site.

My first impression was that the Xyboard was nothing more than a slightly re-designed Xoom, and overall I think that’s true. And what is also true is that it has been re-designed for the better.

The Xyboard is slimmer than the Xoom, and it weighs less. It’s cool industrial design concepts such as the metallic plate in the back with the exposed screws, the water -repellant nano coating, and it’s government grade encryption software for maximum security, make it seem more like the Droid Razr’s big brother than a cousin to the Xoom.

It’s still just a bit on the heavy side however, which makes the fact that it can be purchased in a smaller version (8.2 in), very cool because some people (my two nieces for example), found the 10 inch version to be cumbersome when typing on the keyboard, where-as I found it to be just right for my larger hands.

Its 1.2 GHz dual core technology and 4G LTE compatibility guarantee that it’s super fast. The widescreen HD display is bright and lush with color, so video and game play graphics are awesome. And as is typical with Motorola speakers, the sound quality is fine.

As far as the OS is concerned, I understand that there will always be die-hard iOS fans out there, who will stick by, and continue to use their Apple products, but personally, I really like the Android platform and although there are not 500,000 apps for it (yet! and how many can we possibly use anyway?), there are certainly enough to allow for any type of usage, from office productivity to the playing of your favorite games. And the multiple desktops, available with a simple swipe, are a very convenient way to organize all of those apps!

Unlike the Xoom, the Xyboard’s software package is not heavily influence by Google so Verizon and Moto, (Motorola’s software developers), saw fit to preload a number of very cool apps, the best of which, in my opinion are Amazon Kindle, Madden NFL 12, my Verizon Mobile Quick Office, Skitch, Slingbox and one that I really really like call Dijit which allowed me to use the tablet as a universal remote to run all of my video hardware! Awesome!

Needless to say, the Xyboard which comes with the Honeycomb version of Android out of the box, is upgradeable to “ice cream sandwich”, so staying current is not an issue.

I was also given the very classy looking Motorola stylus to try out and  found that it made the tablet easier to use, once I got used to it. And of course, it enabled me to use the device like a true notepad, jotting down thoughts and impressions in my own handwriting, using apps like Sketcher and Antipaper note.

One of the things that I did find annoying about this tablet is the way that the power and volumn buttons lie flush under the top right edge. That may look good as a design element but I most often found myself fumbling when trying to either turn the device on or make it louder. Perhaps it is something that can be gotten used to.

All in all I found the Xyboard 10.1 to be a very fine tablet, if a bit pricey. Motorola has them listed starting at $499. for the 8in/16GB version.Verizon has them priced from $429 for the 8 in/16GB version, all the way up to $729 for the 10 in/64GB device, with a 2yr contract, of course. If you are in the market for a tablet, I would definitely suggest you take a look at the Xyboard.bottom line……I like it. I would buy one. Next up. Samsung Galaxy Nexus tablet. happy Valentine’s.

Motorola lays out Android 4 upgrades plans: Q2 at ...

Motorola has laid bare the Android 4 upgrade plans for all of its recent phones, and many devices won’t get the upgrade until the third quarter of this year. Some, like the Motorola Xoom and the international version of the Motorola Droid Razr, will get the upgrades in the second quarter, and some phones under two years old may languish with Android 2.3 Gingerbread or 2.2 Froyo.

An unusual selection of devices have concrete Android 4 upgrade trajectories: the Atrix 2, Photon 4G, and Xoom 2 are all scheduled for third-quarter updates, while the higher-profile Droid Bionic, Droid Razr, and Droid Razr Maxx are still in the “evaluation and planning” stages. Given how recently these phones were released, they will definitely make the Android 4 cut; it’s just a matter of when. the year-old Atrix 4G, on the other hand, may be on the bubble, as it is now over a year old and also listed as being the “planning” stages.

Some of the company’s phones from summer 2010 seem like they will not make the cut. the Droid 2, Defy, and Droid X don’t appear to have made it to evaluation and planning considerations, but instead are listed alongside the most recent upgrade currently available (2.2 or 2.3). of course, by the time the rest of Motorola’s devices finally receive Android 4, those phones will have release dates over two years in the past, which means it will be hardware upgrade time for most conventional owners.

Motorola did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

Motorola Droid Xyboard gets pictured for Verizon ...

Verizon subscribers, if you have been meaning to get your hands on the new Motorola Xoom tablets, you will probably need to keep an eye out for the Motorola Xyboard series. that will be the name that the new tablets will be rebranded as under Verizon’s network. We’re guessing that this naming probably has something to do with the term “cyborg” and the “board” could be referring to the fact that it is a tablet.

We wouldn’t be surprised either if Verizon was trying to create a distinct brand name so that users will not be confused and go for the original Motorola Xoom instead. these two tablets will be the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and Droid Xyboard 8.2, with the former being the Xoom 2 and the latter being the smaller Xoom 2 Media Edition. we can expect an announcement to be made shortly.
