Text neck: Diagnosis, symptoms and treatment

High-tech gadgets like smartphones and tablet computers are gaining in popularity. While it is true that these gadgets have made life easier and more convenient, they have created new medical conditions like text neck. Dr. Dean Fishman, a famous chiropractor located in Florida, coined the phrase “text neck”. Dr. Dean Fishman is the founder of the Text Neck Institute in Plantation, Florida. Text neck affects head, neck and shoulders and is caused by excessive usage of handheld gadgets.

People who use handheld gadgets bend forward and remain in that position for hours. This causes significant strain on the spinal cord and leads to text neck. “For every inch of forward head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds,” says Kapandji, an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon.

Text neck can be a forerunner of permanent arthritic damage if it not treated appropriately. X-rays are usually used to diagnose text neck. Head ache, neck pain, back pain, change in bladder or bowel habits, numbness in arms and hands, shoulder pain, pain in the arms, wrist pain, gastrointestinal problems and respiratory dysfunction are some common symptoms of text neck.

The person affected by this medical condition cannot bring the chin down to touch the chest. This medical condition usually causes curvature in the spine. “You can even see the beginnings of the loss of curvature which is essential for the natural balance of the neck,” says Dr. Cohen, a famous neurosurgeon.

Text neck is usually treated with medicines like acetaminophen. This medicine provides relief from pain. Acupuncture is found to be effective in mitigating the symptoms of this tech-induced body ailment. It is advisable to use a firm mattress and thin pillow. Wear a cervical collar during the day.

Text neck can be prevented by changing the way you handle your gadget. It is advisable to bring the gadget up to eye level while texting. Go for regular chiropractic adjustments. It is a good idea to use products like Posture Pump®. Perform simple exercises that strengthen the neck muscles. It is advisable to install a text neck indicator on your gadget. Many text neck indicator apps are available online.

It is important to make the most of technological advancements. It is definitely not advisable to stop using handheld gadgets. However, it is more important to take care of your health. The above-mentioned guidelines help you to enjoy the benefits offered by handheld gadgets without allowing them to damage your body.

Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook – All That You Need To ...

The brand new and absolutely stunning Dell XPS 13 ULTRABOOK is probably the latest and most innovative personal home computing product ever created. However, Dell announced the launch of their latest product at the annual Consumer Electronics Show 2012, still there is something that makes their late entrance special. Need to know more? Continue reading…

While some brands may have a different definition of the word “ultra-thin”, Dell has strictly followed the real meaning of the word by creating an ultra thin personal computing device. The fine matte finished XPS 13 measures 18mm at its thickest point and narrows down to amazing 6mm figure. With a considerably low weight of just 3 pounds, XPS 13 is fabricated with a finely machined and aesthetic aluminum body with a solid carbon fiber base material.

What Will Turn You On?

Let’s have a look at its expansive edge-to-edge display. The crisp high-resolution of 1366 x 768 and its incredible Corning’s ultra strong Gorilla Glass enhances the user experience even more. The new material, Corning’s Gorilla Glass is making a huge appearance in a lot of recent consumer electronics with touch screen display, LCDs’ and LEDs’. This high quality shatter proof glass not only saves you from spending hundreds of bucks on screen replacement, but has also entered a new era of ultra durable mobile electronics.

While there is a comfortable backlight that complements the well-shaped keys, there is also a large glass touchpad designed for smooth and comfortable cursor movement. You can either choose to take home a Dell XPS with a Core i5 processor loaded with 4GB or 25GB Solid State Drive or can even go for a gadget enriched with an i7 processor. These solid state drivers are actually becoming a quick replacement for those unpredictable and dated platter based hard drives.

Then there is a bonus 100 Gb of online cloud storage, which will save you from losing any important data. The best part is its battery life, which lasts for more than eight hours and makes it shine brighter than many other competitors.

What Will Turn You Off?

However, Dell XPS 13 has sacrificed some ports to maintain its portability, there are two USB ports, a headphone jack and a Mini display port for providing some convenience to users. Additionally, there is no Ethernet port, so you will probably need to depend on a Wi-Fi or a 3G connection for accessing web. Then there is no SD slot for you to quickly import your pictures from your camera. But overall, this thin, light and quick starting ULTRABOOK is a good option for all those gadget freaks who are looking forward to replace their previous ULTRABOOK version with a new one.

Top 5 Gadget Gifts This Christmas

If you know someone who’s really into gadgets, and are totally stuck for ideas this Christmas, then take a look at the following few gift ideas for gadget fans. Although none of these gadgets are cheap, they’ll put a big smile on a face and be used for a long time to come.

iPad: Tablets are getting increasingly popular, and none more so than Apple’s iPad. Apple recently released the iPad 3, which is the reigning champion of tablets right now. It’s sleek and snazzy, ultra-fast and trendy too. However, if the iPad 3 is a bit too expensive, the iPad 2 is still a great product that really delivers and won’t leave anyone disappointed.

Kindle Fire: The Kindle Fire is Amazon’s own tablet – or range of tablets. Just recently Amazon released a new range of Kindle Fire HDs, which come in two sizes to meet the demands of various users.

If you’re looking for something portable and effective, then the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD is a great option. If you think that’s too small, then the 8.9-inch device might work better. And, although none of the products in the Kindle Fire range are that powerful, they’re the cheapest tablets on the market right now which makes them almost irresistible. Great design, great usability and at a budget price. There’s no doubt that this is a hit product.

Kinect: One of the biggest developments in video game technology over the last couple of years has been motion control. Once, this was the sole territory of Nintendo’s Wii, but it’s hard to top the unique Kinect motion control on the Xbox 360. This is the only device that lets you interact with games without any hand-held controller whatsoever. Instead, it detects full-body movement which lets you interact with games in totally unique ways. This is the most popular motion control device on the market right now, and is sure to please both serious and causal gamers!

Sonos PLAY: 5: An increasingly popular technology for both music and gadget lovers is wireless speaker systems. The Sonos PLAY:5 is probably the king of consumer wireless speaker systems right now (without spending many thousands of dollars) and it’s easy to see why.

Not only can this system eliminate ugly wires from your living room speaker system, but it can be used to control streaming media services connected to your TV, and can also link up with other Sonos wireless speaker systems around the house to control music in each and every room! This is a serious piece of kit, and will definitely go down a storm on Christmas day!

Apple TV: A great choice for any gadget fan, and a top choice especially for fans of Apple’s products, the newest Apple TV box is a fantastic bit of kit. It includes full iTunes music, movies and TV shows integration, as well as Netflix, Vimeo and more, all in HD. It can also stream content stored on other Apple devices, like iPads and iPods, direct to your TV, and can be controlled using an iPad, iPod touch, iPhone or the included remote. This is a fantastic product that delivers one of the best end-user experiences of any streaming media home setup. A truly excellent gift for any gadget buff!

Acer Iconia Tab A110 priced in the UK at £179, to ...

We all know that any piece of technology is nothing without good marketing, which is why we’re pretty upset to see how Acer is choosing to (not) advertise its upcoming Iconia Tab A110 tablet.

Secretively unveiled back in June at Computex Taipei, the 7-incher looked like a winner to us, both in terms of raw power and pricing. it was pretty obvious that this little guy was capable enough to take on Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which basically changed the way we look at tablets.

In the meantime, Google unleashed the Nexus 7, so 7-inch tablet competition grew ever stronger, but the few of us that remembered the A110 still felt like this could be a gadget to look for. Unfortunately, we heard nothing about it ever since its unveiling.

Although we still have nothing official to report on the “Nexus 7 killer”, a rumor has surfaced online regarding the new tab’s release date and pricing. According to stuff.tv, the A110 will go up for sale in the UK at the end of September for £179 (the 8 GB version).

There’s no mention about a possible US launch in this fresh new report, but we’re willing to bet the 7-incher won’t take long to hit the States. As for pricing, we hope to see the tab selling for as less as $179, but we admit that a $199 tag won’t make it undesirable either.

Meanwhile, the Acer Iconia Tab A110 has popped up on Ebuyer.com, the official website of the largest independent online retailer of electrical goods in the UK. the tab is, of course, listed as “out of stock” with no mention of an ETA, so this is most likely the work of a zealous worker who wanted a shortcut to a favorable Google search position.

The amusing part at Ebuyer’s listing is the gadget’s spec sheet, where the A110 is mentioned as coming with “Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.1” out of the box. This also stinks of SEO optimization from a mile, although it could only be an innocent spelling error. or, but this is a very long shot, the 7-incher might actually be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upon its release, and not ICS.

If you’ve missed the A110’s introduction from June (and you most likely did), here’s the tab’s full spec sheet:

So what do you Android enthusiasts think? could Acer give Amazon and Google a run for their money? And does this 7-incher stand a chance without a heavy marketing campaign behind it?

T-Mobile Confirms Tablet PC Powered by Google ...

I wrote about the possible expansion of Android devices beyond smarphones just the other day. but now it looks like Android is definitely on the up-and-up: T-mobile has confirmed "several" different Android gizmos are on the way. and one may be a tablet PC.

The new York Times is the source of these gadget-blog-style bits of gossip, lending authority with the mention of leaked "confidential documents." according to the paper, T-mobile will be fielding a home phone (remember them?) sometime "early next year," and following it shortly after with a "tablet computer." While T-Mobile wouldn’t comment on the specifics of this rumor, the company has confirmed that some new Android-powered devices are in the pipeline.

Of the two, the home phone seems a little bizarre to me, since that device is on the way to its doom as more and more of us rely solely on cellphones, and use VOIP systems like Skype when at home. and Grandma wouldn’t be too attracted by the bells-and-whistles of a conventional phone running the complex Android OS, would she? Still, there’s the possibility that such a device could function in the role as a home or kitchen media-manager, as the rumor also implies it’ll "come with another device that handles data synchronization," and that would increase its utility for many users.

But the tablet computer makes perfect sense. Imagine it as a netbook without a keyboard, and then think of the pocket-friendly convenience that the reduced size of such a device would bring. It’s reportedly due to get a seven-inch screen, which is the same size as the original Eee PC, and the assumption is that it would be given 3G mobile internet capability through its T-Mobile host. such a device, carefully priced, would be perfectly poised to capitalize on the success of the iPhone which is essentially an ultra-compact mobile computer already–just with a much smaller screen.

When I mentioned the rise of Android on other devices before, I pointed to it signaling trouble for Microsoft. but if Apple really is working on a tablet computer, as so many persistent rumors suggest, then perhaps it had better get a move on.

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga To Come With ARM and Intel

According to the weekend reports, The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, the company’s first ever Windows 8 device will probably come with Intel-based option and ARM system.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga laptop/tablet is a high-end convertible device. This innovative device can be converted from laptop to tablet with just a flip of the screen. This means that users can use the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga as traditional Windows desktop for work at the office or at home, and they can easily convert it into a tablet form when they are on the move. The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga is a super-thin laptop/tablet that comes with a rotating touchscreen that measure 13.1 inches. The device itself weighs a mere 1.4 kg and is only about 16.9 mm thick. It has a screen that can be flipped around the back part, and it morphs into the tablet mode.

When the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga was seen last January at CES, it boasted of Intel Core i7 processor and was lined up for a full Windows 8 gadget. however, Joana Stern of ABC News, reported “Lenovo is planning to release the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga laptop/tablet with ARM-based version with Windows RT around the same time of the operating systems’ release from Microsoft, which will happen on October 26.” This news supports earlier reports that Lenovo was busy toiling with NVIDIA on a Lenovo device to the first Windows RT tablet. Obviously, the device will be the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga. The Intel version of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga has already been whispered about, but the confirmation by ABC on the ARM-based device to run with the specially designed Windows RT OS came as a welcome surprise.

ABC sources also reported “Windows RT is a tablet-friendly operating system, and when it is incorporated, the device will be efficiently lower-powered, yet it can double up the battery life.”

ViewSonic Unveils The ViewPad 7e Android Tablet

It looks like ViewSonic has unveiled their latest ViewPad branded device. the model is the ViewPad 7e tablet and while ViewSonic has announced it, the tablet will be shown off a bit more during the upcoming IFA 2011 event.

First and foremost, IFA 2011 is going to kick off on September 1st in Berlin and should hopefully bring some interesting gadget related news. but that is a story for another day, in fact, it is a story for September 1st. Today we have some basic details on the ViewPad 7e tablet along with some information as to what else ViewSonic will be showing off during the event.

In terms of the ViewPad 7e tablet, this will be a 7 inch (hence the name) tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio. the device is being touted as “compact” and “affordable” and being “perfect for e-reading, web browsing or enjoying multimedia anywhere that suits.”

That being said, the ViewPad 7e is expected to debut during the fourth quarter of 2011 and come priced at €169. So far there was not much given in terms of where the tablet will come available, however given the pricing — we think most will be able to take an educated guess as to one place.

Other specs of the tablet will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity as well as the Amazon Kindle app being pre-loaded. in addition, those who make the purchase can also expect to find Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

And moving past the ViewPad 7e tablet and it looks like ViewSonic will also be showing off the dual-SIM capable V350 smartphone with Android, the ViewSonic VP Series displays and the recently announced ViewPad 10pro tablet which runs both Windows 7 and Android. it was also noted that the ViewPad 10pro will be available beginning September 5th in a Wi-Fi only model for €499.

The 20 worst-named phones and tablets – ...

share share via:

Avram Piltch , Laptop

These days it’s just not good enough to give your phone or tablet an unassuming name like the RX-5050 or M3420e. instead, mobile device makers spend their days masterminding memorable monikers that are supposed to generate buzz. more often, though, they cause static or confusion. here are the very worst of the lot.

Ainovo Novo7 SwordmanLike a knock-off breakfast cereal made by “Keylogs,” the Ainovo brand sounds like it was designed to fool shoppers into thinking they’re getting a Lenovo. But because one “novo” in the name is one too few, the Chinese OEM that makes this cheap tablet added another one for good measure. Don’t ask us what the Swordman part means. though we haven’t crossed blades with this slate, the more boring Ainovo Novo7 Basic’s creaky plastic casing and slow speeds didn’t impress.

HP Veer 4GGenerally speaking, you don’t want to name a gadget after something that happens right before a traffic accident. Unfortunately for HP, the name of its first webOS smartphone was particularly prescient. after users passed this disaster of a handset, the company veered away from its entire mobile strategy and hit a wall.

HP TouchPadHewlett Packard’s abortive attempt at a webOS slate was a failure from the moment the company picked its name. The moniker meisters in Palo Alto seemed blissfully unaware that “touchpad” has been used to describe the pointing device on notebooks (including HP’s) for ages. Consumers may have thought that the short-lived slate, which was pulled from the market after just 57 days, was just a peripheral. Or maybe they noticed the lack of apps, sluggish performance and ugly design.

Imagine you’re the only person with a 10.1 inch Android tablet in the coffee shop, and you’re looking around and everyone is giving you the jealous look.  now imagine if someone walks in with a 22 inch tablet and steals all your 10.1’s thunder.

Perhaps you could just pack up and hit the road before people begin to laughing at you, or you could approach the person with the 22 inch tablet and have some nice tech chit chat.  in any case, ViewSonic aims to shatter all of your gadget swag, and demote you the ranks of “has been.”

ViewSonic will reveal its 22 inch Android ICS tablet this June at the Computex event in Taipei.  The marketing department at ViewSonic designed an ad that promotes the 22 inch behemoth as a device that not only “touch” but also “connect.”  I’m sure the touch correlates with the touch interface, but what is it that ViewSonic is trying to connect with?

No one is quite sure of the exact hardware configuration of the upcoming giant tablet.  however, the sudden birth of a tablet that more than doubles the size of the “normal” tablets will no doubt stir up some juicy gossips and rumors.
