Lenovo Releases Colorful IdeaPad Ultrabooks

Lenovo is stepping up its game in the ultrabook category, announcing two new slim IdeaPads, the 13-inch IdeaPad U310 and the 14-inch IdeaPad U410.

Equipped with Intel’s recently announced third-generation processors, the new IdeaPads offer more powerful processing with longer battery life and lower starting prices than previous models, like the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U310 is a 13-inch consumer ultrabook, starting at $749 that’s equipped with a third-generation Core i3 and 320GB hard drive with 32GB flash memory cache. for those willing to spend a little more, the IdeaPad U310 will also be available with Core i5 and i7 processors and up to 500GB hard drive capacity. all configurations feature a 13.3-inch display with 1366-by-768 resolution, stereo speakers with Dolby Home Theater v4 sound enhancement, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, HDMI output, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and up to seven hours of battery life. Measuring 0.7-inch thick and weighing 3.74 pounds, the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 keeps the flat book-style clamshell design seen on the Lenovo U300s, and is available in a range of colors, including Sapphire Blue, Aqua Blue, Cherry Blossom Pink, Graphite Grey or Metallic Red.

Hard drive capacity ranges from 500GB to 1TB with an optional 32GB cache, or full solid-state drives (SSD). the 14-inch screen offers 1366-by-768 resolution, with Dolby Home Theater v4 sound enhancement. the Lenovo IdeaPad U410 starts at $799 with an Intel Core i3 processor.

Lenovo has equipped both systems with the latest iteration of Lenovo EnhancedExperience 3, which includes power management and Lenovo’s FasterBoot and BootShield, which optimize start-up and shifts non-essential apps to load after the initial system boot. Lenovo also includes SmartUpdate, Lenovo’s proprietary version of Intel Smart Connect Technology, which allows the laptop to continue getting updates to emails and social media while in a sleep state, so you’re always up to date.

Both the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 and IdeaPad U410 are available today in the U.S. and several other countries through Lenovo’s website and will be available through major retailers later this month.

Reviews for Lenovo Y-550 15.6-Inch Black Laptop – up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers) I am very happy with my purchase, this laptop PC is very fast, the battery lasts as long as advertised, the LED display is very bright and yet an energy saver. The keyboard honors the IBM legacy, it is very comfortable to use. The sound of the built in speakers is crystal clear. all in all I highly recommend this product. Reviews for Lenovo Y-550 15.6-Inch Black Laptop – up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers) I’ve had this laptop for a year, no major problems. I got the onsite warranty service for 3 years. just last week, a couple of my keyboard keys broke, NO QUESTIONS ASKED they came to my house and gave me a brand new keyboard. I’ve never had this much success with a company ever. Dell was a horrible company at servicing my laptop.

The laptop itself runs great, Windows 7 64 bit is a great OS, the speakers are loud enough, the keys are responsive, and it’s an overall great, durable, well-constructed laptop. Customer Reviews

Don’t call it a Netbook! Atom-powered ...

The AMD-powered IdeaPad S206

(Credit:Lenovo)

LAS VEGAS–The netbook’s not quite dead yet. The Lenovo IdeaPad S200 features a next-gen Intel Atom processor, and it should offer a significantly better experience than previous-generation 10-inch Atom netbooks.

The rise of low-cost 11-inch ultraportable laptops began last year with a wave of affordable computers powered by AMD E-350 APUs. The colorful IdeaPad S200 series does include an AMD-powered version (the S206), but it’s the Atom version that bears the most interest for us.

We haven’t seen any laptops using the Atom in quite some time, but we imagine that the next-gen Atom N2800 processor should offer an experience more akin to our pleasant experience with the E-350. At least, we hope so: our expectations for quick startup and video playback and graphics on mobile devices are higher than ever.

The S200 and S206 models each weigh 2.8 pounds and are each .81 inch thick. The Atom-based IdeaPad S200 can be equipped with either a 500GB, 7,200rpm hard drive or a 32GB solid-state drive (we’re not sure who would pick 32GB of SSD storage). The AMD-based S206–which, according to Lenovo’s press release, features up to an AMD C60 processor–only has the hard-drive option.

Other features of note include a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0, 2GB of RAM, HDMI, and an SD card reader. Bluetooth and WiMax are optional. The stereo speakers are Dolby Home Theater-optimized.

One warning bell: Lenovo claims “over 4 hours” of battery life. Even if that claim isn’t inflated, 4 hours hardly meets expectations for a modern ultraportable.

Much like the Netbooks of yesteryear, the IdeaPad S200 series comes in a variety of candy colors. Click the slideshow above to see the spectrum up close. The S200 series will be available in June, starting at $349.

Archos 70b is a 7-inch Android Honeycomb tablet ...

Archos is no stranger to the budget tablet game, though recently its bargain-priced tablets have been shifted to the Arnova brand. In January, however, the French company will begin offering an updated version of the 7-inch Archos 70 tablet: the Archos 70B, which will ship with Android 3.2 and sell for just $199.

Inside, you’ll find hardware that’s similar to other $199 Android tablets like the Lenovo IdeaPad A1. It’s got a single-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, and a 1024×768 capacitive touchscreen display. The 70B also features an HDMI port for connecting the tablet to your home theater system and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi for internet access.

The 70B also offers one more thing that you won’t find on most of their other models: Android Market access out-of-the-box. It’s much more common for Archos to ship a third-party app store installed on its tablets, though fans of the budget slates have historically had few issues hacking their tablets to get Google’s official repository running.

This is the third tablet to be introduced by Archos running Honeycomb and offering Android Market access. It joins the $270 Archos 80 and the $340 101 G9 and adds a much more up-to-date budget option to their line-up.

It’s not quite a Kindle Fire, of course, but Archos probably isn’t expecting to challenge Amazon’s Android tablet supremacy with the 70B. It will, however, offer folks living outside the U.S. another decent tablet option that won’t break the bank.

Archos is expected to bring the 70B to CES 2012 in January — at which point it will also be available for purchase.
