Google Nexus 7 Tablet By ASUS Tech Specs Leaked, ...

Google Nexus 7 is one of those few tablets which get their share of fame way before their actual release and, it is because of this popularity that these devices often suffer leaks/rumors concerning their tech specs. If Gizmodo Australia are to be believed then they have got their hands on some training material for the soon to be released Nexus tablet.

According to them, Google Nexus 7 will make its debut at Google I/O this week, which was anticipated by almost all the tech blogs. They have also released a list of tech specs which the Nexus tablet will come with.

Google Nexus 7 tablet will feature Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will get its lightning fast speed from its 1.3GHz Quad-Core Tegra 3 CPU and NVIDIA GPU. Google Nexus will come with a 7-inch 1280×800 IPS display which will be perfect to watch HD movies. it also has a 1.2MP front camera for video chats. Google and ASUS do not disappoint us in terms of memory, Nexus will feature 8GB / 16GB of internal storage complemented by 1 GB RAM. it is being said that the Google Nexus will also be a WiFi only tablet and will come with a battery backup of 8 hours.

But what really makes Google Nexus special is that it will be one of those very few tablets to feature NFC, ability to transfer data faster between devices. currently only a handful of smartphones have NFC but just like bluetooth it will be a must for all future devices.

Since the Nexus tablet is from Google itself, we’ll surely see some exclusive features which other Android devices don’t get, like direct updates from Google which will involve no carrier or OEM.

The materials suggest that the tablet will go up for sale in Australia sometime in July, so we expect made available in US and other countries in the very near future.

If the above specs are really true then the only thing which makes us wonder about the device is in which colors it’ll be available. so far, experts are guessing white and black, but it is only a wild guess. Tell us which color you would like to see on the Google Nexus 7 tablet by ASUS.

Hands-On with Acer’s Windows 8 Tablets

Acer easily had one of the biggest presences at Computex 2012 in Taipei, Taiwan last week, and they didn’t waste it. aside from plenty of Ultrabook news, the Taiwanese company also announced its first two Windows 8 tablets – the Acer Iconia W510 and W700.

Processors are unknown for both, but what we do know is that both tablets will be running Windows 8. Keep in mind, that’s the same full version of Windows 8 that will be running on desktops and notebooks, so when using these tablets with a keyboard, it’ll be virtually the same as using as Windows 8-powered netbook. There was no mention of these running on Windows 8 RT, the operating system designed with ARM Cortex processors in mind, so there’s a good chance we might be seeing something from Intel powering these two tablets.

The W510 has a 10.1” IPS touchscreen display and comes with a keyboard where you can actually dock the tablet. the keyboard dock gives the W510 extra battery life, maxing out at 18 hours. when docked, the display can be folded all the way back so that the keyboard is used as a presentation stand. MicroSD, microUSB, and micro HDMI ports are all present, along with an extra full-sized USB port located on the keyboard dock.

The W700 looks to be the heavy hitter of the pair, though, with an 11.6” full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution touchscreen display. Instead of a keyboard dock, the W700 comes with a docking stand that can be positioned at 70 degrees or 20 degrees, and can work in landscape or portrait mode, though Windows 8 in portrait mode doesn’t exactly look like a thing of beauty. the W700 has a rear-facing 5 MP camera and a front-facing camera, along with a dedicated Windows button that will act as a home screen button, taking you back to the Windows 8 Metro UI. Dolby Home Theater will be supplying the audio. the W700 also boasts a pretty impressive array of ports – a micro HDMI port, three USB 3.0 ports, and a Thunderbolt port. Add in the brushed aluminum finish, and it sounds like this thing is only an external keyboard away from replacing a lot of people’s laptops and tablets alike. a shorter eight hour battery life suggests that the W700 might be packing more heat processor-wise than the W510.

Acer has not disclosed pricing or availability information yet, though we know it will be sometime after this fall’s release of the finished Windows 8 OS.

Acer Iconia Tab A510 review

The A510‘s 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800-resolution TFT display can’t keep up with IPS panels, which offer superior viewing angles and brighter displays. That said, it doesn’t disappoint. The A510 is bright, and if you’re looking at it dead-on, color reproduction is accurate and satisfying. Viewing angles are relatively generous, though colors appear washed out and faded when you start looking on from an angle. at this point, I find myself back at the Transformer Prime — an extra $50 gets the Prime’s SuperIPS+ display, which is very bright and offers very wide viewing angles — a considerable step up over the A510.

The A510’s touchscreen is responsive, but keep a cleaning cloth handy: like most glossy displays, the A510 is prone to picking up fingerprints. like its predecessor, the A510 offers haptic feedback — the unit vibrates anemically as you type, or as a sort of faux-force feedback in games. I didn’t mind the effect, but it wasn’t very convincing. You can turn it off, but I honestly found it oddly alluring, a small plastic critter purring in my lap.

The pair of speakers are a mixed bag. They’re fairly loud, though not quite as loud as Apple’s iPad. They sound nice enough — a bit tinny if you crank the volume up too high, but bass reproduction is adequate. The audio is bolstered by Dolby Mobile audio enhancement, which makes a noticeable difference, provided you tweak the bass and treble levels.

Unfortunately, the speakers are tacked onto the tablet’s lower left and right corners, angled out towards the rear. If you’re holding the A510 in landscape mode, it’s incredibly easy to block and muffle the audio. I actually had the best luck holding the tablet upside down, piping the sound up into the air. it looks awkward if you’re a stickler about logos, but was a bit more satisfying over the long haul.

Lenovo Will Be First to Offer a Windows-based ...

Lenovo would be the first to offer a Windows 8-based tablet. if all goes according to plan, the company will unveil its new product on the very day that Windows 8 would be officially released. This means that it will beat companies like Dell, Nokia, HP, and Asus, which are all preparing Windows 8 tablets, too.

October is the target month for the Windows release, which is consistent with earlier rumors that the Lenovo tablet would be released during the latter part of the year.

Lenovo has not officially announced the specifications for the device, although many are speculating that it could be none other than the Lenovo’s IdeaPad Yoga convertible tablet previewed during CES last January.

The IdeaPad Yoga features a design that is part-laptop, part-tablet with a screen that is able to flip over 360 degrees, much like a notebook with spiral binding. Its 13.3-inch display is IPS with a pixel resolution of 1600 x 900.

The device weighs less than 1.5 kg or 3.3 pounds and runs on an Intel Ivy Bridge ULV processor. it is also packed with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB Solid State Disk. Among its other features are a soft touch rubber paint facilitating the user’s grip on the device as well as a leather cover where the palms can rest. there are also side buttons on the tablet.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga convertible tablet will likely have a price tag of around $1,000.

CES 2012: Acer Iconia A700 10.1 tablet features ...

The Iconia A700 will be the company’s second attempt at a flagship, 10.1-inch Android tablet. the Iconia A700 looks to be a considerable step up from the firm’s previous tablets, now featuring the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. Not only does the tablet boast some impressive specifications, but the design looks much better than the existing Acer A500 Iconia Tab and the build quality feels sturdy too.

The Acer tablet will follow in the footsteps of the Asus Transformer Prime, and will ship with the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. We were impressed with the speed of Acer tablet during our hands on. when pinching-to-zoom there was no redrawing and the device handled HD video playback comfortably. the display resolution allowed by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor is on the level of a mid-range desktop computer monitor.

The tablet’s 10.1in display with 1920×1200 resolution was reasonably bright in low lighting, when tuning it on the brightest setting. Acer claims that the screen boasts quality that is better than IPS displays on the market and the viewing angle on the tablet was impressive, as we were able to view text and video when the device was flat on the table and we were looking at it side on.

Acer will pre-load Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the device and has added some of its own customisations. Top of the list includes the Acer Ring, which allows users to access applications quickly from the lock screen by pressing and holding on the screen and choosing the app they want to open.

CES: Asus Transformer Prime hands on review

TAIWANESE PC MAKER Asus will ship the Transformer Prime in the UK on 12 January and it will be the first device with Nvidia’s quad-core 1.3GHz Tegra 3 processor.

The sequel to the critically acclaimed Asus Eee Pad Transformer, the Transformer Prime has all the makings of being another excellent hybrid tablet.

Asus has stuck with the 10.1in screen size, but has upgraded the display to Super IPS+ technology. The display is crisp and colours are vibrant even in low light settings. The device has an outdoor setting to make it easier to view content outdoors, and we look forward to testing this.

In terms of design, the Transformer Prime is stunning. The 8.3mm chassis is wafer thin and the tablet feels much lighter than its 586g weight. Asus seems to have hit the sweet spot with weight distribution, as we found it very easy to hold the device in one hand.

Nvidia has been promoting its quad-core Tegra 3 processor, so our expectations about the performance of the device were high. The chip designer wasn’t extravagant with its claims, as the Transformer Prime is one of the fastest and smoothest devices we have handled.

Transition between applications is instantaneous and the device is able to playback HD video effortlessly. The Tegra 3 processor also improves battery life, with the firm claiming 12 hours for the tablet and 18 hours when it is docked.

Asus has included most of the major ports that you would expect in laptop. The tablet chassis includes a microHDMI output port, a microSD card slot and a headphone/microphone jack. The dock features a USB 2.0 port and an SD card reader. Connectivity includes 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1, but there is no wired Ethernet port.

The only really disappointing feature was the dock, as we found the trackpad to be a bit flimsy and the keys on the keyboard didn’t have as much flex as we would have liked. on the plus side, we loved the way the tablet clips into the dock so it can be carried as a netbook.

With Asus having confirmed that it will not make the 7in Nvidia Tegra 3 tablet available in the UK, the 10in hybrid Transformer Prime could prove to be a popular alternative. The Transformer Prime will be launched in the UK on 12 January, priced at around £400. The INQUIRER will post a video demo and full review soon. µ

Toshiba’s ‘world’s thinnest ...

Toshiba announced “the world’s thinnest 10-inch tablet,” measuring 0.3 inches (7.7mm) thick and weighing 1.18 pounds (535 grams). Heading for a 1Q U.S. release, the Excite X10 runs the “latest” Android build on a 1.2GHz TI OMAP4430 processor, has 1GB RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of storage, offers a 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 IPS display, and includes five- and two-megapixel cameras. The Excite X10 was pre-announced as the AT200 at the IFA Berlin trade show in September. It was then reintroduced in Japan as the Regza AT200 in October, and apparently shipped there in December. The tablet has now been announced for a U.S. release under the new Excite X10 name. Excite X10 The Excite X10 might lack four cores like the Asus Transformer Prime, but it still fits clearly in the upper echelon of Android tablets. Not only can Toshiba legitimately call the device "the world’s thinnest 10-inch tablet," as it measures 0.3 inches (7.7mm) thick, the tablet also weighs a mere 1.18 pounds (535 grams), according to the company.

These specs appear to be a direct response to the criticism over Toshiba’s earlier Thrive "Honeycomb" tablet. The tubby Thrive measured over 0.6 inches thick and weighed a groan-inducing 1.6 pounds.

The Excite X10 offers a very similar feature set to the Thrive, but slims down in part by sacrificing the full-sized SD slot, as well as fully-sized HDMI and USB ports, instead settling for the usual micro versions of those connectors. The tablet appears to be almost identical to the AT200 (pictured at right), and is even a bit lighter than the originally listed 1.23 pounds. otherwise, all the original specs still hold.

Refusing to commit to Android 4.0 — or possibly moving up to a future Android 4.1 — Toshiba says only that the table will run the "latest" Android build. Whatever the version, it runs on a 1.2GHz Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP4430 processor, a dual-core Cortex-A9 model accompanied here with 1GB of dual-channel LPDDR2 RAM. Either 16GB or 32GB of storage are available internally in addition to the microSD expansion, which could take it up to 64GB.

The Excite X10′s 10.1-inch display offers IPS and "AutoBrite" technology, 1280 x 800 pixels, and a 16:10 aspect ratio, says Toshiba. The display is further equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass, LED backlighting, anti-smudge protection, and 10-finger capacitive touch support, says the company.

Along with the usual accelerometer and light sensor capabilities, the device includes dual cameras (five megapixels with LED flash at the rear, two megapixel at the front) a gyrometer, an electronic compass, and a GPS receiver, according to the company. Additional features are said to include Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and stereo speakers with Toshiba and SRS Labs audio enhancements.

The Excite X10 is equipped with a 25 Watt-hour rechargeable lithium ion battery, says the company. Toshiba did not list battery life, but previously said the AT200 provides eight hours, even with continual video playback.

Pre-installed apps are said to include Google Mobile Services such as Android Market, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Music. Selected third-party applications are said to include Netflix.

In September, Toshiba also announced the Thrive 7" Tablet. This seven-inch Android 3.2 tablet features an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor and a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution.

Stated Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division, "Excite X10 pushes the boundaries of what a thin and light tablet is capable of, delivering elegant styling without sacrificing features or durability."

Availability

The Excite X10 tablet will be available in mid-Q1 2012 for a starting price of $530 for the 16GB model and $600 with 32GB at major U.S. retailers, e-tailers, and ToshibaDirect.com, says the company. more information should eventually appear on Toshiba’s tablet page.
