Samsung cuts the price of Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to $250 ...

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 don’t exactly fit the description of high-end tablets in 2012, as they only offer minimal improvement over their predecessors, if any.  The good news is Samsung has decided to cut the price of the smaller device, even before it hits stores.  The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will now be priced at $250 with the price of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to remain at $400.

This is as good as Christmas for penny-pinching tablet buyers that have initially been put off by the rather exorbitant price of the 7-incher. it was only a few days ago that the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was listed on QVC’s website for about $310, but it seems that report was inaccurate. as for the price of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Samsung’s announcement confirms an earlier leak from Office Depot that pegged it down at $400.

Though the specs of the two Galaxy Tab 2 slates are nothing to writing home about, the fact that they will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich may just lure potential buyers who have been waiting for that elusive ICS update for yesteryear’s Samsung tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will be released on April 22, but you’ll have to wait until may 13 to get the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Meanwhile, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about those who are looking for Android device that’d fit in their pockets.

The recently introduced Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 and 4.2 are basically two Android phones without the phone function.  The Galaxy Player 3.6, as you’d imagine, comes with a 3.6-inch screen and 480 x 320 resolution, while the Galaxy Player 4.2 has a bigger 4.2-inch screen and 800 x 480 resolution. you can find a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 8GB internal storage, and memory card slot on both devices, and they will both ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The main selling point of the Galaxy Player 4.2 is its nifty feature that allows you to hook the Player up to any phone, as long as it has Bluetooth connectivity. and presto, you’ll be able to make and receive calls on the Galaxy Player 4.2. The Galaxy Player 3.6 is already available for $150, while the Galaxy Player 4.2 will hit stores on may 13 for $200.

Are you more excited now about the $250 Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0? and how about those two Galaxy Players?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) Debuts At $399.99; ...

At the same time, speculations also got widespread that Samsung would launch the 8GB version of the tablet at $399 when the Engadget report mentioned that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) got valued by Office Depot at the same price without any details on the market release date. but now, leaping across this rumor, the company has shocked all with their recent announcement that the 16GB version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) would cost just $399.99 and similarly the other advance versions are expected to be priced.

Hence, the big question over here is – Will the Samsung's new 10-inch tablet with less than a $400-price tag could make a difference? especially, when the sales of Apple's new iPad are concerned?

Like us on Facebook

As of now, the sale figures of the new iPad are soaring high and it is becoming really difficult for other Android tablet players in the market (the most relevant Amazon Kindle Fire) to give a stiff competition to the Retina display device market share. This can be said, as International Data Corporation (IDC) recently came out with a preliminary data report which said that Apple conquered 68 percent of the total tablet market share, whereas there was a steep drop in shipments of Android-based tablets.

According to IDC, the total worldwide media tablet shipments for this quarter reached 17.4 million units in Q1 (1.2 million units below IDC's projection for the quarter). 11.8 million Apple iPads were shipped during the quarter (down from 15.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011). However, on a brighter side, the company grew its worldwide share from 54.7 percent in 4Q11 to 68 percent in 1Q12 thanks to the unveiling of the new iPad this March.

On the other end, Amazon, which stormed into the market in 4Q11 to grab second place with 16.8 percent of the market on shipment of 4.8 million units, saw its share dipping significantly in the first quarter to just over 4 percent, falling to third place. Samsung took benefit of Amazon's weakness to regain the number two position while Lenovo vaulted into the number four spot, followed by Barnes & Noble at number five.

Hence, as Samsung has reached the second position, it seems that the smart tech manufacturer is very close to the prime position.

And after IDC, one more renowned data research firm has come out predicting the future of the tablet market in the coming years. NPD DisplaySearch has released a new data report which predicts that the tablet sales are on track to outpace laptops by 2016 and Apple's iPad is projected to hold on to the lead until at least 2017.

However, the report notes that the iPad would not dominate by a large margin in the next five years. according to DisplaySearch, Apple's share will drop from 72.1 percent in 2012 to 50.9 percent in 2017. as, the Android-based devices will emerge eventually and will pick up the slack, growing from 22.5 percent of the market this year to 40.5 percent by 2017. hence, there seems to be scope for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) to impact the sales of Apple iPads, and to follow on the same rivalry line, the Korean tech major has adopted the price drop strategy to lure the consumers.

The new iPad was released with the following price tags — 16 GB: $499, 32 GB: $599 and 64 GB: $699. Further, the new model came with variants triggered with the LTE capability. hence, the in that case, the price tags are $629, $729 and $829 respectively for the 16, 32, and 64 GB variants.

Further, when the new iPad 3 was launched, Apple slashed the price of iPad 2, giving it a new price tag of $400 for 16GB Wi-Fi only and $530 for Wi-Fi + 3G.

Hence, what do you think? Are you a smart consumer and fully aware of the capabilities of a $200, $300 or $400 tablets present in the market?

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Now On Pre-Order From Office ...

The next iteration of the biggest Galaxy tablet from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, is now available for pre-order from Office Depot at a low price of $400 ($399.99 if you want to split hairs).

So it seems that the leak from Office Depot early last month, which we have since suspected to have been a prematurely published page of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, turned out to be correct.

In a leak at the start of April, what appears to have been the preorder page for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 indicated that a 8GB Wi-Fi model of the device could be purchased for $399.99, the exact same price that Office depot is now actually selling the device for.

However, that price is now for the 16GB version of the tablet from the South Korean technology giant.

This may be signaling that from now on, Samsung plans to aggressively push its tablet models by giving them a lower price point.

This move, if it materializes, is arguably to claim some market share from industry-leading Apple with its iPad tablet. Recently, a study from research firm IDC has pegged the iPad to have a dominant 58 percent market share of the tablet market.

Also back in April but later than the leak from Office Depot, a listing on the gadget shopping site QVC also indicated that the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 a price of $309.96. The listing appeared briefly on the QVC site but was swiftly taken down.

Anyway, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 being offered by Office Depot for $399.99 is, as mentioned above, the 16GB model.

It is powered by the latest flavor of the Android mobile operating system, Android 4.0 named Ice Cream Sandwhich.

“On the heels of the GALAXY Tab 2 7.0 launch, we are pleased to now offer two choices of one of the most sought-after tablets on the market,” Office Depot Chief Technology Buyer Randy Wick said in a statement.

It was also revealed by the retail chain that they will start selling the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 through its brick and mortar stores starting this Sunday, may 13.

As for the specifications of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, it will come with a 10.1-inch PLS TFT touch screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels resulting in a pixel density of about 149 pixels per inch. this touch screen is protected by the popular Corning Gorilla Glass.

It will run ICS but will be coated with the TouchWiz user interface Samsung puts in all its Android smartphones (save for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus) and tablets.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be powered by a dual-core TI-OMAP 4430 central processing unit with its Cortex-A9 cores clocked at 1GHz, 1GB in RAM and a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.

Internal storage which will be available with the new tablet will be 8GB, 16GB and 32GB but owners will be able to add additional storage space via  a microSD memory card slot capable of accommodating cards up to 32GB in size.

Connectivity comes via Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 3.0. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will not have the ability to connect to a mobile wireless network.

Meanwhile, it will have two cameras, a 3.15MP unit out back and a VGA unit on the front. The back camera will be capable of shooting high-definition video (720p).

The tablet will also sport USB 2.0 via a micro-USB port and sensors including a compass, an accelerometer, and a gyroscopic sensor. it will also feature GPS and GLONASS.

These features of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 are encased in a 256.6 x 175.3 x 9.7mm body which weighs 581g.

The Wi-Fi only 8GB version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) was spotted at Office Depot website, priced for $399.99 and similarly the other advance versions are expected to be priced. hence, it doesn't matter what kind of tablet the buyer is looking for. Retailers Offer Last Minute Holiday Price Breaks ...

It’s clear that the BlackBerry PlayBook is a tough sell (unless you don’t have to pay for them), but that hasn’t stopped RIM and their retail partners from going nuts with PlayBook promotions. To wit: Best Buy, Staples, and Office Depot have dropped the prices of RIM’s tablet yet again, starting at $199 for the 16GB model.

RIM’s most recent financial statements still paint a grim picture for the tablet, with PlayBook sales dropping for yet another quarter. Still, RIM’s top brass still took a remarkably optimistic stance on the PlayBook’s future, essentially saying that the best was yet to come. I’ll believe it I see it — especially considering the company had to write off $485 million in sales discounts in order to get those PlayBooks moving.

“Hey honey, I know you had your heart set on the Kindle Fire, but I bought you a PlayBook instead! It’s actually better than the Fire because it has a camera and more RAM! What’s that? Apps? Well, it doesn’t have a ton… oh, you can’t send email without a BlackBerry either. Wait, where are you going?”

On second thought, don’t try it — I don’t want to be held responsible for anything that happens.
