Another thing I use, which may or not be apparent to GIMP users, is that several of the tools, including the calligraphy tool are able to create straight lines. You merely need to select a point by clicking, which you can undo (Ctrl + Z) if you like. Hold shift and a line appears that you can drag to any point. When you click again GIMP draws a line to the new point with all the qualities of the line you indicated by your nib, nib shape, size, and speed.

Using this method I’ve been able to work-in different line weights, as well as keeping my strokes nice and clean looking. Its not as elegant as laying in strokes with a tablet, but it does give you some options to get similar effects without driving yourself crazy with a paintbrush and excessive strokes/brushes. Over the coming months, the company will roll out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for  ASUS Transformer Pad 300, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime and ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity. The news will be warmly welcomed by the customers of the aforementioned tablets, while the owners of older Asus tablet models, Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, still wander whether the firmware update will be rolled out for their slates.

When not using the keyboard, the touchscreen slides flush into the chassis, to be used as a chunky standard-looking slate.According to Wired, “At the demo, Cove Point also ran on an early sample of Intel’s upcoming Ivy Bridge CPU. just like you’d find in a full-fledged notebook, the device sports a 12.5-inch screen, two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port.”

Dim the screen

A quick tip to help extend battery life is to adjust the screen brightness of the display to a lower value than the one you are currently using. to change your brightness setting, go to the Home screen status bar, tap on the Battery icon and toggle the brightness slider (in the yellow box below) to your desired value. Note, the system keeps separate brightness levels for whether you’re plugged in and charging or running on battery power only.

Tip: you can peek at the status bar without leaving the app you’re currently using. This is a great way to quickly check notifications, see the time, keep an eye on your battery power level, change the brightness level and more!

To show the status bar while using an app or game, swipe in from the top-left or top-right corner of the bezel onto the screen (1st image). After doing this you can access the settings menu by tapping on the gear icon that appears in the top right corner.

Turn off the screen automatically

Consider setting a short backlight time-out value that causes your tablet screen to turn off when left idle for a specific amount of time (5 minutes, for example). to review and change your backlight time-out value, complete the following steps.

1. From the Home screen, swipe down from the top bezel to access your tablet settings.2. Select “Screen”, then set your desired “Backlight Time-out” value from the drop down menu.

Enter standby mode automatically

If you liked the Asus EEE Pad Slider, but are a fan of Windows rather than Android, you’ll love the Portege M930. the tablet runs on an Intel platform with a fast dual core Core i5 ULV processor, has 4 GB of RAM and a 256 GB solid state drive – that’s much more powerful than the EEE Pad Slider, for sure. the slider mechanism is very similar to the one on the Asus, although the keyboard is better. the device is big and heavy though – it’s 1.1 inches thick and weighs 4.2 pounds – it definitely needs to lower those numbers to be successful.

Toshiba (again) is also trying to see whether a wider display format would be popular with the users, and the feedback has been positive so far. ASUS confirms Eee Pad Transformer and Slider ...

ASUS has quietly confirmed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule for the original Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, promising Android 4.0 will be pushed out as soon as possible after the January 12 Transformer Prime launch. the exact date of the upgrade is yet to be decided, but ASUS says it will be an OTA process rather than requiring the Eee Pad to be plugged into a computer to install it.

That’s good news for existing Transformer and Slider owners, who have been looking on enviously from the sidelines as Transformer Prime owners were reassured their shiny new slates would get Ice Cream Sandwich imminently. ASUS is also preparing a bootloader unlock tool for the Prime, though using it will void your warranty on the tablet.

“We’ll post an update on what changes it’ll make to your Eee Pads nex week,” ASUS’ support team has said, “and hopefully an ETA for the firmware update.” There’s also the possibility of some ICS-running Transformers at CES this coming week, so we’ll be keeping out eyes peeled.
