Easily Use Skype With World Of Warcraft

Once you get a chance to actually speak with someone you’re running around WoW with the whole game seems to change. I’m not a huge Raid or Guild guy, (although I hope to be someday when I grow up), but I do have some friends that I run around with. At one point someone suggested we get Ventrilo (aka Vent) so we could easily chat while questing or banging around in the BG’s. Chatting in real time is also essential for Arena. Essential!

Up to this point we’d been chatting by phone (embarassing, I know) but since it was typically later in the evening the minutes were “free” as in a “Night and Weekends” type of cell plan. But it was annoying and not really practical. It’s not easy to keep a phone on your should for an hour or two, or three. Our speaker phones really stunk as well. So we were looking at Vent. It was cheap. A buddy had a friend who had an accout and that guy made us a channel for us to try it out. So we ran for an hour or so using Vent and it was okay but not great. The voice quality really was pretty bad, the interface was overly complicated for our needs and overall it just seemed to be a bigger pain in the butt than necessary. But it was better than using our phones.

Then, out of the blue, someone asked, “Umm…would Skype work?” This was one of those moments that you feel really dumb when someone else suggests something so fantastically obvious that you should have seen before. Skype! Of course! If you’re not familair with Skype then stop what you are doing and go get it now (at Skype.com). This is a free service (totally free – no credit card, no nothing) that lets you call and talk with people via your computer. The call quality is crystal clear, the interface is drop dead simple and it works perfectly with World of Warcraft.

You can hold conference calls up to 25 people (all free) pretty darn easily. For the record I’ve only been on with 4 other guys, or 5 of us in total, at once however it was crystal clear…just like the 5 of us were all sitting at the same table. Depending on your computer or laptop you don’t even need a headset as the stock microphone and speakers work totally fine (at they do least on my laptop). If you’ve got an extra $15 or so laying around go grab a basic headset (they are cheap on Amazon.com) and you’re all set.

Now many high end guilds may require that you have Vent and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not expensive and everyone has to be on the same page somehow, right? But if you’re banging around questing, or running Battlegrounds or the Arena with a few buddies just use Skype. It’s wicked simple and it works great. Thanks!

Bill spends way too much time running his Druid around the Battlegrounds and adding to his website at WoWDruid.com. Bill shares tips and tricks on running Druids in the World of Warcraft.

Apple devices to outsell Windows for first time ...

Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets have long been considered the future of computing and a new projection from market research firm Gartner shows just how important the mobile market has become. According to the firm’s estimates for 2013, Apple (AAPL) devices will outsell Windows devices for the first time this year. The estimate takes into account sales of Apple’s iPhones, iPads and Mac computers as well as desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones powered by Microsoft’s (MSFT) various Windows operating systems. In 2012, Windows device sales totalled 175 million units while combined sales of iOS devices and Mac PCs reached 159 million. As The Financial Times noted, Gartner also projected that tablet sales will overtake traditional PC sales by 2015.

Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate Modes for Your Laptop

Spread em

via

The current computers have 3 shutdown modes: Shutdown, Sleep and Hibernate. As for the desktops, the choice of these modes is not very different and depends on the needs of each person. On the other hand for laptops, energy issues are always a matter. Indeed the choice of which mode to use for your laptop impacts directly the battery life. In this article we cover which one would be the best in several situations: Shutdown, Sleep or Hibernate.

1. The difference between Shutdown, Sleep and Hibernate:

Shutdown: is a quite familiar shutdown mode with users. When you select Shutdown, all opened programs will be closed along with the operating system. After it has been shutdown, a computer will not consume power. However, if you want it to go back to work, you will have to turn it in, wait for the system to boot, wait for the operating system to run and restart the required applications for the work.

Sleep: also known as Standby or Nap mode. In Sleep mode, the computer is put into a state that consumes less energy than normal. Power is only used to maintain the system’s memory with the applications and data you are working on while other parts of the computer will be shut down to save power. When you turn on your computer from Sleep mode, the system will boot quickly and the data will be retrieved from memory in a few seconds. You can quickly return to work without waiting for the system to restart from the beginning.

Hibernate: also known as hibernation is a less well-known mode. Hibernate is similar to Sleep mode, but instead of saving the data in RAM, in this mode the data will be saved to a file on your hard drive. When you restart the computer from Hibernate mode, like Sleep mode, the operating system and running applications as well as your data will be removed from the hard drive and loaded into RAM so that you can continue the work.

Therefore, when comparing the booting speed between these modes, Sleep mode is the fastest followed by the Hibernate one and obviously the slowest one is Shutdown. However, when comparing the power consumption, we can see Shutdown saves the most power due to no energy use, followed by Hibernate and Sleep mode that consumes the most power. If your laptop is on Sleep mode when the battery is running low, it will automatically switch to Hibernate mode to save power.

2. When to use:

The use of the computer depends on the needs and habits of users. However, very few people take advantage of all the advantages and the convenience of these different modes. There are people who always shut down the computer; there are also some who keep it on 24/7.

Sleep: Sleep mode is useful when you need to leave the computer for a short time, such as nap time. Instead of letting the computer operate, you can put it in Sleep mode to save power and battery. When you come back, you can quickly continue the work, instead of waiting for it to restart and the system’s boot time.

Hibernate: Hibernate mode saves more power than Sleep. You should use this mode when not using the computer for a longer period of time, such as when you sleep at night and plan to continue the work on the computer in the next morning.

Shutdown: This is usually the most common mode for desktop users but those who use laptops often put the machine in Hibernate mode, due to energy saving while still being able to quickly return to work. However, occasionally a few applications may not work properly when launched from Hibernate mode, at this point you will need to shut down and reboot. Sometimes computer users should reboot in order for the system to operate the most effectively.

You should also note the difference with Reboot and Shutdown mode, it consumes power to boot the operating system and the data that are removed from the hard drive. Thus, leaving the computer for a short time, if you choose Shutdown mode, it may consume more power than Sleep.

3. Set your mode:

When you’ve chosen for your commonly used mode, you can set the mode when pressing the power button on the computer or when closing the laptop screen. To change this setting, press the Windows key, type Power Buttons and press Enter. You will see a window of Control Panel to customize.

Now you can customize the Shutdown, Sleep or Hibernate mode when pressing the power button or folding the laptop screen, in two scenarios, when using battery and when being plugged to a power source.

Spray and Dry™ and the Cleaning’s Done

Green Bay, WI (Vocus) September 10, 2009

Move aside pail of dirty water and cloth rags. Step aside ungainly spray bottles and paper towel rolls. You’ve been replaced! Green Bay Converting, Inc. has developed an all-in-one, cleaning tool called Spray and Dry™. The new product is designed to better sanitize surfaces, conserve space and be more convenient compared to a bucket and a rag or an individual spray bottle and towel rolls.

Spray and Dry™ combines 26 ounces of cleaning liquid with a protective dispenser for disposable toweling in one easy-to-use, lightweight package. Spray and Dry™ comes standard with a roll of 85 sheets of strong, absorbent 100% recycled 2-ply white towel with the option to purchase rolls containing 140 sheets of medium to heavy-duty wiper-style paper or 400 sheets of an economical brown wet crepe style towel. When it’s time to replace the towel roll, with one quarter turn of the top, consumers can remove and reinstall paper into the canister with a total time requirement of 15 seconds. Spray and Dry™ is perfect for all types of cleaning, sanitizing and polishing and comes in a variety of colors, red, blue, yellow, white and even a clear version which features a clear fluid reservoir.

"Our product is extremely convenient and portable, which helps make cleaning nearly any surface much easier," said Lee Luft, vice president of sales and operations for Green Bay, Converting, Inc. "But the biggest advantages of this system are the sanitation and convenience components. Think about it. When someone uses the same cloth rag over and over to clean a surface, without it being laundered in between, how clean is it really getting? It’s not very sanitary, yet we see that all the time in restaurants and other locations. With this system, you pull out one sheet, spray and clean, with a single small sheet. It’s more sanitary and you cut down on paper waste with the single sheet approach."

How many times have you seen one of the restaurant crew or a maintenance person approach a clean-up with a spray bottle in one hand and a roll of paper toweling in the other hand and no place to set the paper towel roll except on the surface to be cleaned or the floor?

Because the paper rolls are protected in the Spray and Dry ™ paper canister, the rolls stay clean and dry and waste is further reduced. Special grippers inside the canister are designed to hold the toweling so it doesn’t dispense multiple sheets all at once, as is often the case when using an open roll of paper toweling. Paper towel rolls do not fall on the floor further reducing waste.

The ultra-sturdy, US-made Spray and Dry™ unit was designed to accept a great deal of everyday use and abuse while it helps to protect both the cleaning solution and paper toweling from dirt, moisture and spills. "Also, consumers can feel good about using this product, knowing that the 2-ply white towels and the brown paper towels are made from 100% recycled fiber and that the surfaces to be cleaned really are being thoroughly cleaned," said Luft. Also, the use of disposable spray bottles that are difficult to recycle is eliminated.

"It’s a brand new product, but already many people are finding that the cleaning possibilities are endless with Spray and Dry™," says Luft. "A major electronics retailer is already using it to keep the products they have on display properly cleaned and sanitized. In addition, we’ve had very considerable interest from schools, grocery retailers and restaurant chains."

Replacement rolls of the specially sized paper toweling are available through the distributers that market Spray and Dry™. Custom colors are available with a minimum order of 100 units. "We purposely left the canister free of any words or logos so companies can customize it with their name and logo, however, customized chemically resistant, self-adhesive labels are available to help users identify the cleaning solutions being used in the Spray and Dry™ and/or to identify for what cleaning requirement the units are to be used," said Luft. For more information or to order Spray and Dry™, please visit gbconvert or call #

AccessData Introduces New MPE+ (4.6) Tablet for ...

LINDON, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, AccessData announced the release of the Mobile Phone Examiner Plus®(MPE+) Tablet designed to make in-depth mobile phone data immediately available during on-scene cell phone investigations, saving time for examiners back at the lab. “The MPE+ Tablet is easier to use and less cumbersome than other common field solutions,” commented former law enforcement officer and leading mobile forensics educator, Lee Reiber. Reiber is Director of Mobile Forensics at AccessData Group and has personally led the development of the MPE+ software and field tablet solutions.

“The MPE+ Tablet is easier to use and less cumbersome than other common field solutions”

With thousands of mobile device models built on several different operating systems and proprietary technologies, law enforcement, government agencies and even corporations struggle to find tools that will allow them to analyze and preserve evidence from each device they encounter. AccessData has proven itself as a leader in delivering mobile forensics technology that addresses this challenge, and has also placed great emphasis on making mobile device seizures in the field quicker and easier.

Other field tools allow an examiner to acquire mobile device data, but then require the examiner to transfer that data into a different module before evidence can be analyzed. In many cases, alternative mobile forensics tools are too cumbersome. For example, they have to be installed on laptops, or worse yet, the solution comes in the form of a kiosk. “The new MPE+ Tablet is lightweight, intuitive and allows the field examiner to preview, acquire, and analyze evidence right at the scene of the device seizure. The examiner is also able to generate a customized evidence report on the spot, saving a great deal of time for forensic investigators back at the lab,” explained Reiber.

The MPE+ Tablet comes preconfigured with MPE+ 4.6, the latest version of this market-leading solution. MPE+ is a stand-alone cell phone forensics solution that integrates seamlessly with the leading computer forensics technology, Forensic Toolkit® (FTK®). This integration with FTK allows investigators to correlate evidence from multiple mobile devices with evidence from multiple computers, thus further increasing the efficiency and efficacy of digital forensics examiners.

MPE+ v4.6 includes “ClickOnce Installation” and auto updating in two modes.Online mode automatically confirms MPE+ has the latest software and drivers and prompts the user to install if an active internet connection is present. Offline mode supports installation of the latest software updates and drivers from our secure server. Reiber stated, “We recognize and do our best to support all workflows and security requirements. Most importantly, we want our client base to spend their time catching the bad guys, rather than maintaining our software.”

Key features of MPE+ software and the new touch tablet are below:

Mobile Phone Examiner Plus (MPE+) Software:

  • Supports 3500+ mobile devices, including…
    • iOS® devices, including iPad®
    • Android®

Graphium Health Selects Motion Tablet PCs for ...

Austin, TX and Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 20, 2012

HIMSS 2012

Motion Booth #4230

Today’s anesthesiologists are mobile – they rarely, if ever, practice in just one location. This amount of mobility requires that their electronic medical records (EMRs) are as mobile and portable as their practice. As such, Graphium Health, a healthcare software company dedicated to improving patient satisfaction and the quality of patient care through mobile technology, selected the Motion® C5v Tablet PC as well as the J3500 Tablet PC to develop AnesthesiaEMR.com, a web-based application which digitizes the existing intraoperative anesthesia form, allowing users to document via a tablet PC, effectively connecting the anesthesiologist to the cloud.

Tweet this: Graphium #Health selects @MotionComputing #tablets for AnesthesiaEMR.com, helps improve patient care bit #HIMSS12

By developing AnesthesiaEMR.com to run on Motion Tablet PCs, Graphium Health was able to capitalize on the tablet PCs’ unique stylus capabilities, replacing paper records with an electronic solution that enhances efficiency, reliability and accuracy.

According to Jeffrey R. Zavaleta, M.D., private-practice pediatric anesthesiologist and chief medical officer of Graphium Health, “Compared to what’s out on the market, the Motion C5v and J3500 Tablet PCs have three distinct advantages: first the durability is unsurpassed, and common disinfectant wipes easily cleansed contaminated units; second, the stylus input was a must for our ‘digital pen and paper’ solution; finally the Windows® 7 operating system allows our IT department to easily disk image and support the hardware. With the AnesthesiaEMR.com running on Motion Tablet PCs, I can keep pace with my fastest surgeons.”

AnesthesiaEMR.com, running on Motion Tablet PCs, allows the anesthesia department to complete intraoperative records, prevent record loss, automate billing compliance checks and batch billing processes and enable real-time remote supervision. Because of the tablets’ connection to the cloud and AnesthesiaEMR.com’s enterprise-validated business intelligence engine, administrators can ensure throughput, efficiency and patient safety across facilities in real time. The additional use of the barcode scanner and camera allow for automated patient and drug identification before every surgical case, ensuring the safe delivery of care to patients and the legal documentation of ancillary procedures.

By eliminating the need for paper-based forms, the mobile computing solution helps reduce the potential for error as well as lost records and revenue. The supervising anesthesiologist can now manage multiple rooms at once by easily accessing all required records and supervising the delivered anesthetic, saving valuable time. The office secretary is no longer required to validate each record to ensure all signatures and times are complete – the solution automates this process from start to finish. The medical director no longer needs to wait six months for productivity reports to identify which providers should improve their patient safety practices, as the information is generated and captured in real time and viewable in the OR Dashboard.

Aside from the provider and patient benefits, the elimination of paper creates a green benefit. A typical process starts with the creation of an anesthesia record on a paper form with three additional carbon copies. The original copy goes on the patient’s chart, and the remaining copies are delivered to the billing office, pharmacy and anesthesia office. Each copy of the record serves a different purpose: the chart copy is scanned into the hospital’s EMR as a PDF; the billing copy is manually entered into the billing software; the pharmacy copy is used to reconcile pharmacy charges; and the anesthesia copy is stored in the office for six months for possible data mining, a process so dependent on human capital it becomes cost prohibitive.

According to Dr. Zavaleta, there are currently 90,000 anesthesia providers and 40-50 million anesthetic procedures performed each year in the U.S. By eliminating paper-based forms, the savings can add up to 200 million pieces of paper a year.

Why Microsoft’s Surface May Be Your Next ...

It’s been almost a full day, and tech bloggers everywhere have had time to digest the details regarding Surface, Microsoft’s mobile rectangle of (hoped for) resurrection. By now you’ve heard of the two versions, as CEO Steve Ballmer pointed out the nVidia ARM processing version running Windows 8 RT and the souped-up Intel i5 stylings of the Windows 8 Pro version.

Ballmer and crew reeled us in like a smart realtor, walking us through the efficiency apartment with a modest but small master bath, before revealing the two-story full Victorian restoration down the street. Many tech bloggers have already begun extolling the virtues of Surface’s Pro version, while others wonder aloud how it would do in a Tusken Raider Death Match against a fully armed (and pissed off) iPad3.

Is the Surface actually planned to take on Apple’s burgeoning market share? You betcha. Likely, however, Microsoft is seeking a once and still familiar niche for itself, a tablet-based toehold, which may ultimately transform where (and how) iPads are used.

Microsoft’s end game for Surface is to turn it into the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and give us all a ride back in time. Returning us to earlier times, when Macs were for fun, unless you were an artist, or worked in journalism or digital media. Back then, Microsoft had a strangle-hold on Office software, and was considered the proven, ever-stoic device for real work. Office work. School work. Government work. Apples were for folks cooler than us.

With Surface, the folks at Redmond want to make us all time-traveling Marty McFlys. And I think they just might be able to do it this time around.

The high-end version of Surface has increased processing power and file storage capability, so that it can run the full-on version of Windows 8 Professional. Which means having right from the box the software needed to plug-and-play with server-based office networks. Whether via wireless or hard-lined connection, the Pro version of Surface will be managed in ways familiar to the IT staff in a medium to large scale corporation, government organization, university, or school district. Many of these organizations provide their administration, staff and students specific resources based on their role with the organization. Specialized scripts run upon unique user login (and yes, you’ll be able to create a network-level login on the Surface Pro) to allocate these resources.

Tablet PCs Reviews – The Best Mobile ...

Mobile computing has been a hot topic lately with so many advances in chip architecture and power efficiency. Laptops have long been the standard for mobile users, but there is another form factor type that has been on the market for some time that deserves a little more recognition. Sometimes a laptop can be unwieldy and awkward to handle. In situations where opening up a laptop isn’t an option, tablet PCs get the job done in a much more inconspicuous way.

The term tablet PCs is a general description for any mobile computer that is designed to be controlled with your fingers or a pen device that is touched directly to the screen surface. There are a few different styles of tablet PCs; some of which have keyboards and others not, both having their own strengths and weaknesses.

·Convertible tablet PCs

* Offers the flexibility of a full keyboard

* Screen rotates 180 degrees and lays flat against keyboard for tablet PC operation

* Rotating screen connection tends to be very weak and easy to break

·Slate tablet PCs

* Has no attached keyboard

* External keyboard can be attached via Bluetooth or USB

* Very thin and light compared to other styles

·Hybrid tablet PCs

* Offers flexibility of a full keyboard

* Screen detaches from keyboard and/or slides away

* More sturdy than convertible screen attachment

Most major manufacturers offer some version of the tablet PC form factor. Gateway, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Toshiba, Fujitsu, ASUS and Sony all have very competitive products to offer.

Here are two examples of popular tablet PCs that do their job very nicely:

Lenovo Thinkpad X61

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo L7500

• Display Size (inches): 12.1 • Wide Screen: No • Total HD Size (GB): 120 • Min. Weight (lbs.): 4.0 • Price (at time of review): $1800

This convertible style model is a great choice for business people who are finding themselves in need of computing power on the fly. Equipped with 2 GB RAM and the always necessary built in Wi-Fi card, this machine will handle document review/creation, data processing as well as VoIP calls very efficiently

Sony VAIO VGN-UX390N

CPU: Intel Core 2 Solo U2200

• Display Size (inches): 4.5 • Wide Screen: Yes • Total HD Size (GB): 32 • Min. Weight (lbs.): 1.0 • Price (at time of review): $2200

Truly a genius invention, this tablet is considered a hybrid and is one of the most powerful machines you will find for its size. Fitting comfortably into your hands, it offers a slide up screen that reveals a full qwerty keyboard. Supplied with a stylus, this tablet PC gives you full computer access that almost fits in your pocket. 1 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and a cell phone SIM card slot mean you can take it almost anywhere and have access to your data.

Because of their inherent small chassis and light weight design, tablet PCs can be expected to offer performance more or less on par with ultraportable models. Don’t think you will be able to do video processing or run any killer apps on these machines, but if what you are looking for is sleek, discrete access to your computer, tablet PCs might just be your match.
