Dell Streak 10 Pro Honeycomb Tablet Shows Up In ...

Dell has their Streak lineup of tablets with the Dell Streak 5 and the Dell Streak 7. Both aren’t really true tablets in my opinion though since they aren’t running Google’s tablet version of Android which is Honeycomb. Instead they are running the smartphone version of Android. But recently Dell teased a 10-inch tablet running Honeycomb called the Dell Streak 10 Pro and it looks like that tablet is now getting showed off in China.

Looking at the tablet you can see that it’s very similar to all the other Honeycomb tablets on the market. it has a 10-inch screen, it’s 13mm thick, and it weighs 727 grams. so it’s a bit heavier and thicker than the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 but it’s still not too bad. And as far as the I/O goes there is a lot more than both of those tablets which might make up for the added weight. it has a 40-pin dock connector along with a micro-USB port, a MicroSD card slot, and a full sized SD card slot. And it has a very nice battery as well which is supposed to last 12 hours.

It also has a 2MP camera on the front for video chat and a 5MP camera with flash on the back. And speaking of the back it has a nice brushed aluminum look and the build quality overall looks nice. as far as the storage goes it has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Plus it has a 1GHz dual core Tegra 2 processor. so the specs are just like pretty much every other Android tablet. Although it will be a bit cheaper than the other Android tablets which will be nice. no word yet on when it’s going to arrive.

What are your thoughts on this?

Toshiba Tablet AT330: The world’s first 13.3in Android tablet

Toshiba has expanded its Android tablet range in Australia by releasing three new devices, including a huge 13.3in model, the AT330.

Called the Excite 13 in the US market, Toshiba says the renamed AT330 “delivers more screen real estate than any other tablet on the market.” It will retail for $699.

The AT330′s 13.3in screen is an AutoBrite LED backlit display with a resolution of 1600×900, but it has a comparatively low pixel density of just 120ppi when compared with Apple’s new iPad (264ppi).

The AT330 comes with a micro-USB port, a micro HDMI port and a full-sized SD card slot. It charges via a proprietary dock connector. Toshiba promises the battery will last for up to 13 hours with seven days of standby time.

The Toshiba AT330 is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with GeForce graphics, has 1GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of internal memory.

Along with the world’s first 13in Android tablet, Toshiba has also released 7.7in and 10.1in sized tablets, called the AT270 ($539) and AT330 ($539), respectively.

“Available in three screen sizes – 7.7” (AT270), 10.1” (AT300) and 13.3” (AT330), the stylish line-up of new Android powered tablets offers a choice for consumers depending on their style for viewing content,” said Justin White, Toshiba Australia’s product marketing manager.

All three of Toshiba’s new tablets run Google’s latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, feature 5-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras and come with expandable memory. The new Toshiba tablets are Wi-Fi-only models with no 3G or 4G connectivity available.

Toshiba’s new Android tablet range will be available through major retailers in Australia from “late June”.

What Sets The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Apart?

It’s from Lenovo’s business and corporation line and as tablet Personal computer reviews have pointed out, the slate is also business-centric. The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet caused a bit of a buzz when it was first voiced and when it hit the shelving. Lots of things make this tablet stick out from the Android crowd so we’re taking another look at it to see just what makes this tablet different.

Size. Okay, it’s the 1st thing many tablet COMPUTER comparisons pretty much spotted and it’s the first thing you’d notice if you place the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet next to a Galaxy Tab or an iPad: the size. It’s a chunky at 10. 3 x 7.2 x 0.6 inches and it has peculiar proportions. Don’t let that turn you off though, since tablet PCs with full USB port are typically chunkier than their more streamlined opposite numbers.

Specs. since this is built for business, you should expect it to have enough juice to cope with most things you can throw at it. The ThinkPad Tablet has a 1 GB twin core NVIDIA Tegra 2, 1 GB of RAM, and 10.1-inch multi-touch IPS Ape Glass display (1280 x 800). It comes in three different storage sizes, the highest capacity at 64 GB and 2 GB of free cloud storage. its battery can crank out power for as much as 8 hours, it’s got a front (2 MP) and rear camera (5 MP), and has a selection of sensors built in.

Input/Output and Connectivity. as mentioned, the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet has a full USB port, with an SD slot, a mini-HDMI port (1080p capable), and headphone and mic jacks. this includes a stylus and an optional folio keyboard. Connectivity-wise, it has Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth. if you haven’t quite gotten used to a keyboard- and mouse-less experience, you can get the dock and use a Bluetooth mouse and you’re all set. The pen input isn’t so bad to have around too.

Software. The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet runs with Android 3.1 Honeycomb and it comes built in with widgets. you can download your programs straight from the Android Market. In a company setting, It departments can set up their own to serve as their internal app stores.

Security. since this slate is formed for business use, it is intended to take security seriously. Internal and external storage is encrypted, with an e-mail. It departments can also impose restrictions to company PC’s and remotely wipe the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet should it be taken or misplaced. Other security measures are preloaded, including McAfee Anti-Malware.

At any rate, the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet is for real, and more so once it receives the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update. Stay tuned for more tablet PC stories and updates.

Asus Transformer Pad TF300 video review

Why on earth wouldn't we do a video review of the Asus Transformer Pad TF300? How else would you get a tangible idea of just how smooth the hinge mechanism feels, how quickly it slinks through Android 4.0 with its quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, how secure docking the slate is? when it comes to tablets that transform, Asus have well and truly got it down and while the TF300 may not be the perfect specimen of a Transformer, costing £399, it's is a wonderful compromise for anyone hesitant to splurge the full £499 on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

In addition to great specs, the other main selling point of the Transformer line is connectivity. The Asus Transformer Pad TF300 has a micro HDMI port for exporting video easily in full HD to a TV or compatible monitor. What's more, thanks to the microSD card, the 16GB of internal memory can be expanded by 32GB, totallying 48GB.

On the dock, you've got even more connections in the form of afull sized SD card slot and a full sized USB port. this is perfect for anyone with a digital camera, which given the TF300's speedy processor means you can view hi-res images very well indeed. if you really want to push the boat out, the full sized USB port supports card readers, so can take CF cards from more powerful / old school cameras as we illustrate in our Asus Transfomer Pad TF300 tips and tricks video.

Throw in the full keyboard and extended battery and there really is a lot to love about the TF300. We're not crazy on the feel, especially after coming face to face with the Prime's gorgeous metal appeal, though there's no denying the £100 saving softens the blow nicely. Enjoy our video review and leave a comment below if you've got any questions on this fine tab-top.

Acer Iconia Tab A510

Acer’s new Android tablet, the Iconia Tab A510 ($449.99 list), doesn’t give you quite enough for your money. the tablet market is insanely competitive: You have to deliver on style, price, or apps to succeed. while the A510  is a decent Android 4.0 tablet with the latest quad-core processor, it’s beaten by its competitors in nearly every measure.

Physical DesignIf you’re used to the sleek metallic edges of the latest Asus or Toshiba tablets, the A500 will be a bit of a disappointment. At 6.9 by 10.2 by .4 inches (HWD) and 23.5 ounces, it’s slightly thicker and heavier than its top competitors. For instance, the Asus Transformer TF300 ($399, 4 stars) is just a little slimmer at .38 inches and lighter at 22.2 ounces, and the Asus Transformer Prime ($499, 4 stars) is slimmer and lighter still.

But it’s not the size that’s the issue here. Acer uses a lot of plastic and not much metal in the black-and-silver case, leading to a slightly chintzy feel. the mildly textured plastic back is practical, but doesn’t feel premium, even when compared to other plastic tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) ($249, 4 stars).

The A510′s odd-looking MicroUSB jack comes with an adapter that turns it into a full-sized USB port. the tablet supports external USB keyboards and storage, as long as that storage is formatted as FAT32. That’s pretty hot; it means you can play videos off an external hard drive on this tablet. Asus and Toshiba tablets have that feature too. There’s also a built-in mic on top, a rotation lock, and dual speakers on the bottom.

Turn on the Iconia 510 and you get a workaday 1280-by-800-pixel LCD panel, which is absolutely standard on midrange 10-inch tablets. That’s on par with the latest models from Asus, Samsung, and Toshiba, although many tablet watchers are holding out for the upcoming 1920-by-1200 models, which will compete more closely with the new Apple iPad‘s ($499, 4.5 stars) 2048-by-1536-pixel screen.

Acer touts its 9800mAh / 36.26W battery as a cure for battery-life blues, and we got strong performance with it: 9 hours, 34 minutes of continuous video playback with Wi-Fi on and brightness turned to max. That beat out the 7 hours, 53 minutes we got on the Asus TF300 , not to mention the five and a half hours the new iPad achieved.

Android and AppsThe A510 runs Android 4.0.3 with a light skin, Acer’s Ring UI. Take a look at our full review of Android 4.0 (4 stars), Ice Cream Sandwich, for more details on the basic OS here.

Pressing a virtual button at the bottom of the screen pops up five quick app shortcuts, a carousel of Web bookmarks, and a volume control. the tablet also comes with a few custom widgets and apps. Acer Print lets you print documents or Web pages to a wide variety of Wi-Fi-enabled printers. Aupeo is a custom radio app. McAfee does antivirus duty, Polaris Office reads Microsoft Office documents, and clear.fi is a DLNA media server.

Benchmarks came out looking great, as they generally do on tablets with Nvidia’s blazing Tegra 3 processor. Running here at 1.3GHz, the A510 scored faster than the 1.2GHz Asus Transformer Pad TF300T and roughly on par with the original Transformer Prime , which also had a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.

But I encountered strange performance slowdowns when testing the A510. sometimes on-screen buttons weren’t responsive; I found this both on the built-in keyboard and in Zen Pinball. sometimes screens took an extra moment to render. these issues didn’t occur all the time, but they happened often enough to annoy (and to lose some pinball games).

10-inch Android tablets still have a problem with finding good apps in Google Play. As most apps are designed for small phone screens, many prominent apps look pretty awful on large Android tablets. the A510 offers two options to help with this problem: You can download either Tablified Market ($1.49, 4 stars), with a list of 1,500 or so top-notch tablet apps, or Nvidia’s Tegra Zone, with a few dozen high-quality games designed for Tegra-powered tablets. those outlets improve the situation, but app availability still falls far short of the Apple iPad, which has over 200,000 third-party apps with UIs designed specifically for tablets. the A510 connects to the Internet using Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n (albeit only on 2.4GHz, not 5GHz). it had no trouble connecting to our WPA2-protected networks. it also supports Bluetooth 2.1. and there’s a blocked-off SIM card slot behind a door on the side, a sloppy touch—either eliminate the slot or make it active.

Multimedia and ConclusionsThe A510 has 32GB of built-in storage as well as a microSD card slot that supports 32GB cards, hidden behind a door on the side. it plays all the usual audio and video formats, including MP3, AAC, WMA, OGG, WAV, WMV, H.264, MP4, DivX and Xvid (in AVI containers). Video files up to 1080p resolution looked sharp and clear. Oddly, though, the built-in micro HDMI port only put out 720p resolution to our TV.

The tablet has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1-megapixel front camera. Indoor shots taken with the rear camera looked noisy, with a decidedly purple cast. Not great.  Low-light photos showed some blur from low shutter speeds. Outdoors, images were sharper, but still with that purplish color imbalance. the front camera’s 1-megapixel still images actually had better colors.

The tablet records 1080p video at 30 frames per second outdoors, but indoors that drops to a jittery 16 frames per second. 720p videos indoors clock in at 20 frames per second. As I know the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor can handle 1080p at 30 frames per second without breaking a sweat, this is probably just a cut-rate camera module.

If the Iconia Tab A510 cost $50 less, it would have a different rating. Priced at $450, this tablet sits in an uncomfortable middle ground. it certainly has some things going for it, most notably its long battery life and powerful speakers.

Unfortunately for the A510, you can get more capable tablets for less. the Asus TF300T, at $399 for a similar 32GB model, gives you 95 percent of the A510′s speed, along with a better camera and slimmer form factor, for less money. the Apple iPad 2, currently running $399, is another prime competitor—it isn’t as fast as the Iconia 510, but it has far, far more tablet-optimized apps. I’d also keep an eye out for Toshiba’s upcoming tablet line, which we did a recent hands-on with. it promises Tegra 3 power and Android 4.0 with USB host mode in a sleeker body.

Lenovo ThinkPad with Android Tablet PC designed ...

Lenovo has developed a Tablet PC designed for business. ThinkPad Tablet is designed for those who want to be productive and want to replace the laptop to use a camera more portable and easy. In other words, is a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet PC for business people and those working in enterprise environments and businesses.

Lenovo ThinkPad is a bit heavier and thicker than other 10-inch Android tablets, but this is due to the number of available ports, and because the screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass for added strength and durability.

The tablet is connected with a USB interface to an external keyboard. thus, the text input is more convenient than using the virtual keyboard and you can use the optical trackpad to move the cursor on the screen.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet has a 10.1-inch multi-touch capacitive with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The picture quality is good, but the reaction time seems to be very high. A kind of ghost effect is observed during the gameLenovo ThinkPad has a 2 MP camera with front-and four physical buttons below the screen, with special features such as auto-rotation, lock screen, restart your browser features, and back home.

In the event there is a SIM slot and the card reader, micro-USB port, HDMI, USB 2.0, audio jack of 3.5 mm and the volume buttons, and additional elements such as housing and the pin-plug the docking station. The external speaker is disposed in the case of tablets. On the back there is a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording HD.

Even if the hardware platform is part of an older generation – Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core CPU, 1 GHz, the tablet works fine. Applications will be executed quickly, without delay, and the interface works perfectly. Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet with Android OS 3.1.

Lenovo offers a variety of additional applications and widgets, as its own carrier rocket and the carousel of six applications on the right side, but most of the Android interface is pretty standard. its function, what is really remarkable is the task killer, who is the manager of the standard Android Honeycomb applications integrated, allowing you to easily connect an application with a single click. In addition, I appreciate the e-mail widget, which can combine multiple e-mail addresses in a single, unified field.

The display includes an N-Trig digitizer duo that make using a capacitive stylus, with which the user notes, write and draw on the tray allows it comes. this is a feature HTC Flyer offers.

The battery life increases to approximately 8 hours of operation, on average, should that be enough for a whole day of work.

So, if you have a tablet that you want to use for productivity, Lenovo is one of the few options you consider. The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet has a higher price than its main competitors, but the difference is offered by the characteristics and justified the robust design.

New Toshiba Tablets Announced in Three Different ...

Category: Gadgets Posted: April 10, 2012 06:22PM Author: bp9801

Toshiba is staying commited to the tablet world, but is retiring its unpopular Thrive in favor of something new. Toshiba has announced the new Excite line of tablets, which come in 7.7, 10, and 13 inch sizes. yes, that last one is a 13" tablet and not an Ultrabook. regardless of the size you get, all the Excites pack an NVIDIA Tegra 3 SoC and run a stock version of Android 4.0. all feature 1GB of RAM, a five megapixel rear camera, two megapixel front camera, and are WiFi-only. The 7.7" model comes in at 0.3 inches thick, weighs 13.1 ounces, and features a 1280×800 AMOLED display. The Excite 10 is only 0.35 inches thick, weighs 1.32 pounds, and has a 1280×800 AutoBrite LED display. The Excite 13 comes in at 0.4 inches thick and 2.2 pounds, but packs a 1600×900 AutoBrite LED display.

The Excite 7.7 has a microSD slot and micro USB port, but the Excite 10 and 13 both have a micro HDMI port and a full-size SD slot. The Excite 10 is rated for 10 hours of battery life, the Excite 13 at 13 hours of battery life, but the Excite 7.7 does not have any information. since it is the smallest of the Excite tablets, I imagine it will have at least 10 hours of runtime.

The Excite 10 will be the first to launch on May 6th, with the Excite 13 and 7.7 on June 10th. The 10" model starts at $449.99 for the 16GB model, the 7.7" starts at $499.99 for 16GB, and the 13" at $649.99 for 32GB of storage.

The A510 has an internal 9,800mAh battery that promises up to 12 hours of video playback (a feat helped by the Tegra 3′s dedicated video processor).

Other features include 1GB of system RAM, HDMI video output, microSD memory expansion, Dolby Mobile 3 audio, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, front and rear cameras (1 megapixel/5 megapixel), and a Micro-USB port that works for charging the tablet, as well as other gadgets. Neat trick.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 Android tablet

Acer is attempting to use price as its major drawcard for its latest Android tablet, the Iconia Tab A200. Retailing for what the company describes as a “very affordable price” of $349, the 10.1in Iconia Tab A200 is significantly cheaper than most of its rivals, making it good value for money in an otherwise overpriced category.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Android tablet review Acer Iconia Tab A100 Android tablet review

Acer Iconia Tab A200: Design and display

The Iconia Tab A200 is effectively a cheaper version of the Iconia Tab A500, Acer’s first Android tablet. If you place the two tablets side-by-side, however, you’d be hard pressed to tell which one is the inexpensive model. the Iconia Tab A200 has a cleaner looking and more elegant feel than its industrial looking predecessor. the rounded edges, well placed buttons and smooth angles aid its visual appeal, while the soft feeling plastic on the back makes it comfortable to hold. Unfortunately, the excellent materials and build quality are compromised by a hefty weight — at 700g, the Iconia Tab A200 is one of the heavier Android tablets on the market.

On the left side of the Acer Iconia Tab A200 you’ll find a power button, a micro-USB port for connecting the device to a PC or Mac, a standard headphone jack and a full-sized USB port. There’s also a microSD card slot and a reset button, but these are hidden by an incredibly difficult to remove plastic cover, without a doubt the most questionable design decision on Acer’s part. A volume button and screen rotation lock slider are on top and a port to charge the tablet is on the right side. Small but nifty touches — such as the tiny LED indicator on the power button and the raised indents on the volume button — add positives to the overall user experience.

The Acer Iconia A200 has a 10.1 capacitive LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1280×800. the screen is relatively responsive and clear, but it has extremely poor viewing angles. Sunlight legibility is also an issue as we found it difficult to read the screen outdoors. the Iconia A200 also lacks the vivid brightness of many competitors, such as the AMOLED screen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, for example.
