Apple iPad 3G versus Apple iPad Wi-Fi

Many Apple followers loyally stood in line in early April to purchase their Apple iPad, but some were surprised at what they got: an iPad Wi-Fi, not an iPad 3G. Apparently many users were expecting their iPad to be the full-featured product complete with 3G capability, but that version of iPad won’t be available until later in the month.

Difference between iPad 3G and iPad Wi-Fi

Apple’s iPad 3G will connect to mobile data networks such as AT&T’s 9 and presumabley Verizon’s at a later date), so if you were expecting to have fully mobile data the way you have with your iPhone or iPhone HD, you are going to be let down. The Apple iPad Wi-Fi version that you have will only connect to local area networks and hotspots. If you use your iPad at home, at the office, in the library, etc. you will not have any problems accessing the iPad store and other network resources. If there’s no hotspot available, you are out of luck.

Users who were dismayed at the iPad’s $499 price tag will be even more disappointed should they choose to hold out until the iPad 3G is available: it’s cost is expected to be $629 and that is still before purchasing a service subscription or any Apple iPad accessories.

Two data plans are expected to be available for the iPad 3G: a 150 megabyte monthy plan that will cost about $14.99 plus taxes and fees or an unlimited plan that will cost $29.99 per month plus taxes and fees.

Another difference between the Apple iPad 3G and the Wi-Fi version released at the beginning of the month is its weight. The 3G version will weigh 1.6 pounds (.73 kg) while the Wi-Fi version weighs only 1.5 pound (.68 kg).

iPad in the Box

Both models of the iPad will come with the iPad itself (3G or Wi-Fi), a connector for USB hookup to a computer, a power adapter (10 watts) that connects to USB, and user documentation.

iPad accessories

All the accessories that work with the Apple iPad 3G will work with the Wi-Fi version. This includes the Apple iPad 3G keyboard dock, the camera connection kit, the iPad dock, and the iPad case.

No more surprises

Now that you know that you are limited to Wi-Fi connections only, you should take comfort in the fact that there are no more surprises that await you (except the high price of Apple iPad apps, or course).

Apple iPad: The Most Astounding Tablet Computer ...

The Apple iPad is one of the most awaited gadgets of this century. Ever since the January announcement, thousands of people are eagerly awaiting its official release here in UK. Apple iPad release date has been fixed as May 28th, 2010 in many countries including UK. The pre-ordering has already begun and it is expected that the iPad would perform just as brilliantly as in the US.

Apple iPad being a new breed of device, can be seen as a tablet computer, but is more powerful and feature-rich than that. If the surveys are believed, in the US region the sales for the Apple iPad had reached one million within a month.

The Apple iPad comes with two variants – with Wi-Fi alone, and with Wi-Fi and 3G. The Apple iPad price is as yet unknown but reports suggest they may come at about £350 or so. There are plenty of Apple iPad features which are sure to take away the breath of the user. The multi-touch is one of the most wonderful facilities, to begin with. The display is LCD coupled with a XGA output. A scratch-resistant glossy cover protects the screen which has a resolution of 1024x768px (at 4:3 ratio). The Apple iPad is powered by a 1GHz A4 PoP SoC processor. It runs on a modified and advanced version of the operating system found on the iPhone – iPhone OS 3.2. A huge list of applications comes built in because of this feature. There are software applications like Safari, YouTube, iPod, iTunes, iBooks, App Store, Maps, Calendar, Notes, Contacts and the Spotlight Search.

The Apple iPad Tablet(fones) comes with a 16, 32 or 64 GB flash drive for storage. A micro-SIM slot is provided. The iPad can be connected to the computer and can sync with iTunes on Mac or PC. There is a built-in Bluetooth functionality, because of which one can use wireless headphones and keyboards with the iPad. A normal 3.5 mm audio jack provides stereo sound for headphones.

The battery is supposed to provide the best performance. It can provide 10 hours of video, 140 hours of audio or can remain on continuous standby for about a month. The battery however is irreplaceable but can be charged with regular USB cables connected to a computer. However, a special 10 W power adapter is provided for quicker recharging because the iPad uses high-current (of the order of 2 amperes) to recharge the battery. An interesting thing with the Apple iPad is that one can easily make calls through VoIP using a Bluetooth headset and the Wi-Fi/3G feature.

There is an accelerometer, ambient light sensor and magnetometer for the digital compass. According to certain Apple iPad review, these are slightly modified versions of the one found on the iPhone. The Wi-Fi variant weighs in at about 680 g while the 3G variant weights at 730 g. The 3G variant of the Apple iPad is sold unlocked and can thus be used with any compatible GSM carrier.

A comparatively large list of Apple iPad Accessories(fones) accompanies the Apple iPad:

iPad Keyboard Dock with hardware keyboard, 30-pin connector, and audio jack

iPad Case used to stand the iPad in various positions

iPad Dock with 30-pin connector and audio jack

iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter for external projection or monitor display

iPad Camera Connection Kit including a USB Type A connector adapter and an SD card reader (can be used to transfer photos and videos only)

iPad 10W USB Power Adapter with 2 A output (10 W)

Why should you go for iPAD?

Why should I care about getting an iPAD tablet computer made by Apple? Because it’s the hottest thing to come out since sliced bread. It’s the future of computers, here. There are drawbacks to the device, but no matter its faults the iPAD makes us happy when we start to use it. This device is truly that big heavy computer in your hand, it eliminates the need of all those cables and spaces and sizes for the normal everyday man. The iPAD makes full use of all the pertinent technology available to it. For example, since it has no USB slots, it makes wonderful use of Bluetooth technology, however amazing Bluetooth is, its not a popular method of transferring information. It is better when used for its pairing features, and its ability to eliminate the need for any physical connection between device A and device B. This great feature allows anyone to pair anything and anytime with the iPAD, and the most commonly paired device with the iPAD is a Bluetooth keyboard.

Aside from this situation, we can also see how the iPAD uses a smart Wi-Fi connection setup. It uses an actively smart WI-FI connection, for example if it has been connected before it will remember the WiFi connection and remember to connect to it in the future. This ability to connect with those that it remembers is fantastic and is seen in every other device with Wi-Fi but what makes the iPAD WiFi so smart and fantastic, is its ability to properly connect itself to open networks that it encounters out and about in the town. The iPad’s main drawback is its lack of compatibility with flash based websites. With many websites going into a flashy direction with sleek interfaces and design, the future of websites are being held in place by an antiquated website format. For example, the main reason most websites are not in flash is because of its inability to properly climb in website rankings and increase i s value to Google search spiders.

Aside from this however, flash is an integral component of popular websites, and is also used by many advertisers in unique ways on websites to present their product with catchy styles. And it’s a downright shame that Apple cannot settle past differences and rivalries and fully embrace a competitor’s software. But since Apple is so big and popular it can now get away with it. If Apple were any other company that came out with a similar device it would undoubtedly fail, because the supporting framework just isn’t there. If Apple didn’t already have its hands in other ways in this PC business, than it would have been much more difficult to establish the iPad as the juggernaut that it is now. If Apple made just the device, there’s a very good chance that the OS was powered by Android. This would have been incredible to see, and I’m sure some tech out there has figured out a way to completely take out the Apple OS and replaced it with the latest iteration of the Android operating system.

The iPad’s successful debut on the shelves and homes of America is largely due in part to Apple’s ingenious marketing techniques. They employ images of everyday activities made to be just a little bit better with the utilization of Apple products. All the sudden asking your phone where the nearest restaurant or gas station is, not such a crazy idea after all.

What I would like to know now, is what is going to happen 10 years from now. What revolutionary hurdle will we jump through next as we advance into the next technological frontier? Revolutions happen every day, but on a very small level when talking about technology. And I for one cannot wait to see what happens next.

Deals on Kindle Fire HD 7.0 & Amazon Kindle ...

Turning a page on the iPad - the beginning to the end of the mouse as the primary ostension mechanism

via

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) December 23, 2012

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7” 16GB, Wi-Fi tablet is much more affordable during the holiday season, particularly before Christmas.

Kindle Fire HD 7” is one of the most sought-after small tablets on a budget currently available. Mingya found the best deal available for the 16GB, Wi-Fi 7-inch tablet which currently sells for $199.00 on Amazon.

Amazon expanded the concept of the tablet PC in 2007 with the creation of the first edition of the black and white display Kindle. While this device served e-book reading purposes, it was not ready for video playback and Internet browsing according to the report. The new changes that have been made have helped to contribute to the success of this tablet series.

Apple’s iPad is one of the competitors to the Kindle edition of tablets. The price comparison for each of these tablets is very different. While Apple reports a larger market share, the retail price is approximately $100 higher for the iPad compared with the same 7-inch version of the Kindle Fire tablet.

5 Different Ways to Get Free Wi-Fi For Your ...

Android tablets are selling like hot cakes these days. Barely a year has passed but many brands and versions have hit the stores, and they sure captured the attention of the public. Just like most specialized gadgets, a tablet ought to be Wi-Fi-ready to make it a dream device. True enough, all tablets are probably equipped with wireless technology to make surfing the net a lot easier and fun to do.

Aside from the convenient form, size and weight, many versions of tablets could very well adapt to the demands of work and interest of the techies. Nothing could be more important than acquiring lightning-fast Internet connection, where almost all information can be accessed through the World Wide Web. The Internet is the lifeline of computers, what with all the cables and power plugs it requires. However, if you are bringing your Android tablet while enjoying the outdoor ambiance, you cannot take the Internet connection with you. To solve that, you can try the following ways to acquire free Wi-Fi for your Android tablet:

1. Download a free Wi-Fi system for your tablet.

This is the first of the many ways that you can try, and there are loads of applications that you can download to improve your Wi-Fi connectivity. Most of these are free, so you can enjoy browsing websites, playing online games, and connecting to VoIP applications.

2. Visit the public library.

Most public libraries provide fast Internet connectivity. This is one way of encouraging people to go libraries, as there is a lot to earn from both books and websites. Furthermore, your tablet can be installed with e-book readers so you can just go to a library for a peaceful and comfortable ambiance.

3. Grab a cheap cup of coffee.

Although coffee is generally not free, you can sip your way to unlimited free Wi-Fi access. Spending a few dollars is definitely worth the fast connection. Coffee shops provide a great deal of Internet connectivity for all gadgets apart from your tablet, such as smart phones and high-end versions of Kindles.

4. Go to public places with free Wi-Fi access.

You may also opt to visit public places where Wi-Fi connectivity is subsidized by the local government. Such places include parks, stadiums, and the like. Students and busy people who are always on-the-go will most benefit from this. In these places, of course, you can bask in the free Internet connection, but always take caution.

5. Ask for free Wi-Fi.

Lastly, you may ask your friends to send you free Wi-Fi. Websites such as sharemywifi.com allows this, so if you are zero on web connectivity, your friends can actually give you access to the Internet at a reasonable speed. This is one of the new technological breakthroughs that are worth investing your time in. To ensure security of information, it would be best to ask for Internet access from those you know well.

Many tablet applications require Internet connection, such as web browsers, VoIP software and social networking programs. With fast web access, you can use your Android tablet to its maximum potential.

Get a 10.1-inch Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi + 3G tablet ...

Way, way back in November of 2011, I wrote a post about the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi tablet selling for $349.99.

Here’s proof of how quickly — and dramatically — prices can drop: today only, and while supplies last, Daily Steals has the refurbished 32GB Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi + 3G 10.1-inch Android tablet for $199.99, plus $5 for shipping. (And lest we forget, this sucker was $800 when it debuted in February 2011.)

The Xoom may be a dinosaur bytablet standards, but it’s loaded with desirable features. it comes with a dual-core processor, 32GB of storage, two cameras (one 5-megapixel, one 2-megapixel, both with LED flashes), HDMI out, GPS, a microSD slot, and so on.

It’s also one of the very few non-iPad tablets to offer 3G connectivity. Here it’s courtesy of Verizon, but the good news is you don’t have to sign a contract or even sign up for service at all; it’s completely optional.

The Xoom ships withAndroid 3.0, but from what I can tell, Motorola started pushing out Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) a couple months ago.

Bottom line: if you’re in the market for a 10-inch tablet, this offers a lot of bang for the buck. I’ve seen a few other models dip below $200, but none with 3G, and none with ICS.

Bonus deal: looking for a dirt-cheap NAS solution? J&R has the Pogoplug Classic for $19.99, with free shipping if you’ve signed up for the company’s free loyalty program. That’s the lowest price I’ve seen on this terrific gizmo, which lets you connect up to four USB drives to your network and access and share their data online.

Deals found on The Cheapskate are subject to availability, expiration, and other terms determined by sellers.
